The win

Europe’s digital backbone, engineered for uptime

From the traffic control systems that manage a city’s flow to the local bakery processing online orders, a silent digital engine powers much of Europe. This engine is team.blue, whose infrastructure underpins the essential services countless people and businesses rely on every day. For millions of small and medium-sized enterprises, this platform is the invisible force enabling commerce and connection. An outage isn't just a technical issue; it could mean gridlock on city streets, delayed access to healthcare records, or a business unable to serve its customers.

As team.blue expanded its footprint across 22 countries, it faced a significant operational challenge: how to merge dozens of disparate systems into a single, high-performing, and unwaveringly reliable platform. By standardizing on NetApp® AFF A-Series and C-Series systems powered by NetApp® ONTAP®, the company transformed a fragmented technological landscape into a unified, resilient foundation.

The result is a testament to this strategic decision: 100 percent uptime over the past year, ensuring that startups, public-sector organizations, and enterprises remain online without interruption. At team.blue, reliability is not a feature—it is the core of its product.

If our systems go down, small businesses across Europe can’t sell, communicate, or operate. It’s that simple. Reliability isn’t something we talk about — it’s something our customers live by.

The company

Powering Europe’s digital entrepreneurs

As Europe’s third-largest hosting provider, team.blue operates a network of more than 60 brands, delivering web hosting, email, cloud services and SaaS solutions to millions of businesses.

Its model combines global scale with local expertise. Each regional brand offers native-language support and customer care rooted in local markets, while the company’s centralized infrastructure provides the enterprise-grade performance and compliance customers need.

Technology evolves fast, and so do customer demands. Working with NetApp means we’re always ahead and ready for whatever comes next.

The challenge

Uniting complexity under one platform

With rapid growth came complexity. Each acquisition brought its own systems, vendors, and processes. Managing this mix consumed valuable time, limiting the team.blue's ability to innovate quickly. Maintaining reliability across different technologies would require more staff and training, even as customers expected faster, more stable digital experiences.

At the same time, regulatory pressures intensified. Clients in healthcare, finance, and government needed assurances that their data would remain within national borders. Team.blue needed a unified platform that could deliver consistent performance, support compliance, and scale with demand, all without disruption to its customers.

Our customers depend on us so they can depend on themselves. If their site is down, they can’t do business. That’s what keeps us focused on uptime.

The Solution

Standardizing resilience with NetApp ONTAP

team.blue built its foundation on NetApp ONTAP, consolidating European operations on AFF A-Series and C-Series systems. The result is a consistent, flexible environment that supports both high-performance and cost-efficient workloads while simplifying daily management.

With ONTAP, engineers perform maintenance and migrations during business hours without disrupting customers — a major shift from traditional overnight work. Automation amplifies those gains: using the ONTAP REST API and Ansible, the team streamlines provisioning and lifecycle management, freeing engineers to focus on optimization. Seamless integration with platforms like Kubernetes and OpenStack speeds up the delivery of new services.

We don’t chase trends; we build trust. Our infrastructure has to be reliable today and ready for tomorrow.

Results and business impact

Flawless performance at scale

Since adopting NetApp, team.blue has achieved remarkable operational efficiency and reliability. Over the past year, the company recorded 100% uptime across its NetApp environment, a record that reflects the platform’s resilience and the expertise of a lean, five-person engineering team that manages roughly 20 petabytes of customer data across Europe.

When team.blue migrated its shared hosting platform to NetApp, performance improvements were immediate. Independent testing later ranked the platform number one in Europe for hosting speed and reliability, confirming the value of the company’s investment in modernization.

The operational benefits extend beyond performance. Standardization has reduced complexity and costs, enabling faster onboarding of new acquisitions and more consistent service quality across markets. For team.blue’s customers, the outcome is simple: faster, more stable digital experiences that help them grow with confidence.

team.blue gives local businesses access to the kind of infrastructure that was once only possible for large enterprises. That’s what motivates us.

What's next

Building the future of digital Europe

team.blue continues to expand its NetApp footprint across new regions, from the Netherlands and Germany to the Nordics and Southern Europe, creating a single, unified storage standard for its diverse operations. NetApp is now one of the company’s two strategic storage partners, forming the backbone of its growth strategy.

Next, team.blue is exploring AI-powered services that will improve customer support and automate website creation, along with disaggregated storage architectures to enhance flexibility and efficiency. Sustainability is also a priority on the agenda. In alignment with its goal of achieving net-zero operations by 2030, the company is reducing data center energy use and emissions, supported by NetApp’s energy-efficient systems and storage optimization tools.

With NetApp, we can maintain one big infrastructure instead of hundreds of smaller ones. That means better performance, easier management, and lower cost.
