BlueXP is now NetApp Console
Monitor and run hybrid cloud data services
Hi, I'm Shawn Dao, market strategist for modern analytics at NetApp, and welcome to our AI Ninja series. Today, I'm going to spend just a few minutes talking about how computer vision is transforming organizations across industries and even helping to save lives. Computer vision is a field of AI that enables computers to see, observe, and understand. By applying machine learning or deep learning models, computer vision can classify objects and images. After the computer understands what it sees, it can then respond appropriately, like unlocking your smartphone when it recognizes your face. With 99% accuracy, computer [clears throat] vision has expanded beyond facial recognition. It's now changing how we live and work, and it's adopted across multiple industries. In healthcare and medicine, computer vision is being used to identify lung lesions and COVID patients within seconds. It can also monitor blood loss during operations to avoid hemorrhaging. True life-saving stuff. life-saving stuff. life-saving stuff. The financial services industry uses computer vision to detect fraud, resolve credit card billing disputes, improve security, and for contact payments or for mobile check deposits. For manufacturers, computer vision can improve product quality and reduce costs as computers are trained to complete repetitive tasks. Automotive companies use computer vision to enable self-driving vehicles to classify and detect obstacles such as stoplights, pedestrians, and road conditions to avoid accidents. So, how is this all made possible? Our human brains seemingly take very little effort to identify common objects such as cats or dogs. But it takes hundreds of thousands or even billions of images to train a computer to see things as we humans do. At that rate, data volume is a massive challenge. Not only does the data have to be available, but it also has to be organized in a way that AI architectures can understand. To create an effective computer vision solution, you need to be able to collect, sort, and analyze huge quantities of data. Training models of this size can take weeks of compute time and require the best of the best machine learning and deep learning frameworks. This is where NetApp can help. Data management is where we shine. NetApp is the leader in the IDC marketscape for worldwide scale out file-based object storage which is important because computer vision workloads are yep you guessed it scale out and filebased. Our technology simplifies data management across the entire data pipeline from edge to core to cloud so that you can build an AI infrastructure with crystal clear vision. To learn more about how you can put computer vision to work in your organization or enterprise, please check out our computer vision page. Thanks for your time.
