hi I'm Gabby boo CMO at NetApp and I am really excited to have a very special person here with me today Kate Swanberg of DreamWorks welcome Kate thank you so much super happy to be here so glad you're here with me and it is wonderful to be talking to you about our amazing films tell me a little bit about yourself what do you do for DreamWorks How long have you been in the industry I'm starting my 27th year I've got the best job in the whole world Gabby I oversee all of our strategic Partnerships with worldclass technology companies I get to sit at the intersection of those amazing technology companies our world-class engineering organization and our filmmakers that aligned trajectory is what you called it to me before that Synergy right that you DreamWorks and me netup we have together because that's a three deade partnership it is it's crazy so DreamWorks was founded in 1994 and what is amazing is that we have used net app Solutions on every single CG feature animated film we've ever made but when we talk about aligned trajectories what I mean by that is that net apppp is always thinking about Innovation you are always looking out the next 5 to 10 to 15 years and focusing on what your customers are going to need around their data and what we're always focused on iswhat we're producing for the next 5 to 10 to 15 years and our trajectories haveso often been matched in such a perfect way and that's what a true partnership is all about and I'm so excited about your new release of wild robot oh my gosh we are so excited about this movie I have to say this is probably one of the best movies we've ever made it's so stunning it's so heartfelt most people watching our movies it would never occur to them that everything that they're seeing on screen is actually data but when you talk about a CG feature animated film whether it's a tree or a butterfly it's all crafted inside the computers by artists and so those all become digital files there's an extraordinary amount of data we're dealing with pedabytes for a single film and it's important that actually the data management is handled on behalf of the net app Solutions and our engineers effortlessly and seamlessly moving that data and delivering that data to the artist when they need it that way the artists can focus on what they do best I want to talk to you just a little bit about how DreamWorks from the technology perspective manages big trends like cloud like AI how do you think about that in the context of your technology we are always looking for technological solutions to help us Advance the ease of which our artists can bring these amazing films to life you talk about intelligent data infrastructure that's what we're looking for out of those Trends we're actually looking for our infrastructure to be made even more seamless even easier even a better set of protection for our data every single day I could geek out on data with you all day but I don't want to leave it just there I want to talk about two more things what was your favorite moment in this film there are so many moments in this film and they tug at my heart but there's one that's just breathtaking we've got this fabulous robot Raz and she's been stranded on this stunning Island and she's walking through the forest andshe sees she sees this image in front of her and itseems like it's static so she walks up and she puts her hand on it it's 80,000 butterflies and the butterflies come to life and they surround her and for the first time you get the sense that Raz appreciates that every single thing around her is this living vibrant wonderful thing that she can interact with and the fact that our artists were able to bring that to life with such beauty and it all happening in this gorgeously painterly way behind the scenes there's a tremendous amount of Technology pulling that all together I guarantee that every single one of those butterflies is a massive amount of data for a simple little butterfly Gabby I have to ask you I mean you've been in the data business for a while now and I have to imagine that to some degree bringing these solutions to life must feel a little bit like bringing movies to life I think it does right when you're making something and you're thinking about the impact it can have not just to your customers but also to an industry into a market that's what everybody wants right you want to do something that's beyond what you do every day that's right you want to make people's lives better and you guys are doing it through world-class solutions that you know ourCTO will tell you he sleeps better at night knowing that our data is SEC he say that to me in the hall way and hopefully we are enriching people's lives through movies like The Wild robot which I know youare thank you for being with me let's do it again
