[Music]hello everyone I welcome you to this conversation that I'm hosting from my home office we meet today on the traditional land of the bidigo people and I pay my respects to the eldest past present and emerging my guest today is Jeffrey Wang a account manager at cybercx welcome Jeff and thank you for making your way all the way to my home thanks for having me Basha thank you um so as we start our conversation could you introduce yourself to the audience please sure well I'm a count manager at Cyber CX wehelp secure our communities it's a full service cyber security firm that looks at trying to help our customers with their cyber security needs we're trying to make it so that it's a easy customer experience you know so they can help we help them with all aspects of securing their environment yeah that's awesome Jeff and I think the that's where I kind of met you as well a few years ago when I was you know during my time in security my industry Mentor James tin introduced me to you and it's been really great to be in you know be in touch andget to know what you've been contributing right so it's really great absolutely and I feel like I've been on the journey since then as well you know as you know that that's a time when I discovered cyber security yeah fell in love with it yeah and uh looked this when this role came up it was just a perfect combination of two of my passions which is cyber security and government so ah that is awesome you stole myquestion I was about to ask youknow what are you passionate about so cyber security and government and what else drives you as a person look Irealize that through my time working in cyber security that the thing that really gets me out of bed is the ability to help people um ultimately you know if yes we go to work wewere there to do a job home but what really gives me the satisfaction what really gives me the Fulfillment when I turn up to work is knowing that I can make a difference and this is why cyber security is just such agreat area to be in right now because we know how badly uh people need our help yeah and um yeah every time that you know I get a call for help you know I just feel like you know it'ssuch a fulfilling uh you know it's such a fulfilling experience to be able to say yes you know we're here to help you know you're in good hands yeah I can totally relate to that and I can see the passion you know there when as you speak about it so it's so great to hear thatum you know andas we talk about um I guess cyber security um and cyber CX right like at NetApp I know we are having a lot of conversations around customers who are at different parts of the technology transformation clutch transformation journey and if we talk about a hybrid multi-cloud sort of environment you know there they might already have made the journey or they're in some stages of the journey but the common theme is thereare still a lot of questions and people are still seeking advice right so sometimes it'sit could be around what's available what options are availableum or it's about maybe educating about what else is coming in right so um and then once it's been deployed it is about managing first deployment but also managing an ongoing maintenance and ongoing optimization right so um you know NetApp is working with a lot of cloud first partners and cyber CX is one of them tell us a little bit about cyber CX andwhere do you seethat you know where is cyber CX helping customers yeah sojust back to what you said um yes you absolutely right that customers are all different parts of that Journey it is a very different world I know cloud is notnew anymore it's just been around for a few years but you know everyone is on a different part of that journey in terms of where theadoption is but you know if you look at Cloud you realize that it's a completely different way of doing things and whenthere's a completely different Paradigm you know there are a lot of things that you may not have thought of yep right andthis is where cyber CX case come in now cyber CX you may know you know we are a security company um but what you may not be aware of is that we are also a cloud company and notjust securing the cloud but also help your journey through the cloud yeah um and that is the you know think about a you know like a cloud company that can help you move to the cloud transform make that cloud transformation but we're security built into everything we do you know security is in our DNA recently we made two big Acquisitions in the cloud company uh one's Tracer Cloud the other is called senior yeah and um and that just goes on to show theinvestment and thecommitment that cyber CX hasmade in helping our customers in their Cloud transformationJourney yep um thanks for that and I know uh just in the last few years cyber CX has grown so much right and so um looking and it's really great like there is a commonality between what we do at narab and what you do at Cyber six because underlying a sense of security and everything but being that partner to help customers in the cloud Journey that'sgreat um what do you see as customers challenges when they are in their Cloud Journey oh well um I think a very common theme as you probably cometo appreciate is having the expertise to be able to deploy that their Technologies now they're great Technologies in the market and there's you know if you could look at thelatest landscape of security vendors is you know hundreds of them and there's a reason why there's hundreds of them because you know this is a market that's evolving so fast you know everyone claims to be best of breed but the reality is that without the right expertise in-house although these Technologies aren't deployed in the way that it should and that usually causes a bad customer experience and unfortunately it also doesn't give you the kind of posture that you're hoping for yeah so um yeah soa clear um I suppose a common problem that everyone faces is Staff you know it's just impossible to get staff new staff but also you know retaining your existing staff absolutely and when you're when you require good security expertise it's verydifficult to find good ones in the market and if you can't pace and rates for them it you know you would be struggling to get the right outcomes yeah it'sa it's an employee's Market there's a skills shortage especially with skills around cyber security and Cloud that's always like that's so much in demand and you know touching some really good points so you've got you know cyber CX has expertise to help customers in their journey and manage and deploy and all of that and you know it's but to think that some bigger organizations would have skills and they might have the you know the resources to acquire new people and retain them and all of that but security is equally important to small businesses and they want security as the basics but they might not have the money to have skills in-house right butsecurity is important anyway you still want to use cloud right so it'slike um you know so in that scenario then how does Cyber CX help people who might not want expertise in-house you know who might not be able to afford them or who might just want to hand it to somebody who is an expert in that field right how do you help them well I think youmake a very good point there right you um not every business is big enough to need to employ cyber security expertise especially thevery top-end very Niche expertise for you know as a full-time staff yeah this is where cyber CX comes in yeah the reality is that only very few companies only a handful companies inorganizations in Australia would be able to afford these expertise and also like even for organizations who can afford these expertise do they need them does every organization need to have experts in-house all the time uh look I think it's up to theorganization themselves to make that uh yeah to make that decision but where cyber CX comes in very useful uh forour customers is to be able to bring the breadth of talent and draw them in as we need soyou don't need to keep someone you know 365 days a year you only need to bring them in when you need them but also it's the ability to draw on a pool of you know 1100 of our country's top cyber security talents yeah andyou know being able to have that expertise brought in as you need and that's why you come to us now cyber CX Prides itself in having the right kind of culture so that we can attract the best staff attract and retain the best staff yeah andthat is incredibly important inorder to deliver for our customers in order to win you know in this war for talent yeah you know to attract the right kind of people and look when it comes to cyber security um you know what it all comes down to is the quality of people yeah that's it absolutely but you touched on some really great points uh Jeff and so um as we you know finish up our conversation what is uh what is um a point that you want to leave our audience with today I think um when it comes to cyber security uh wereally need to change our mindset you know as you and I probably grew up in an Asian household with you know some very high expectation parents you know we always want to score 100 in our tests but cyber security is just not about scoring 100 and in fact you know if you were to score 100 you know inyour cyber security then you're probably not deploying your resources the right way yeah cyber security is about optimizing what we do and our efforts yeah and the way we got to do that is to you know look at a lot of we have to look at what everyone else is doing we have to look at what the threat landscape is and we have to make a um a pragmatic decision as to where to spend our efforts the reality is that you'll never get to 100 andthat's not necessarily a good thing to strive for yeah but the best way to ensure that you'vegiven yourself the best I suppose bang for the buck is to speak with people or in the industry people who understand that the latest trends and the threats and then you can then make a very informed decision as to where to best spend your resources when it comes to cyber security absolutely thank you Jeff and also that you know is different cyber security is different when you're looking at your own traditional Network versus when you extend your network to the Cloud public Cloud private Cloud you know and then that's where itreally helps to have the experts who are already helping or other customers who have already gone through the Journey to kind of take those tips andhelp yourselves right clearly yeah go look I know cloud is a new way of doing things you know we used to talk about the castle remote but the reality is nobody works in the castle on both anymore thepandemic is almost ensured that no matter how hard you try people are going to have to work remotely we're going to have to work from everywhere so you know the traditional thinking of Defending a certain real estate is no longer applicable yep but rather you know what you'realmost in a very different mode of operation you're almost like in a secret agent kind of operation soyou really have to think differently in order to secure your environments now one thing what you want to try and do is to ensure that you've got a consistent posture across all your different environments whether it be in the cloud in a multi-cloud environment or whether it be on-prem and you need to look for the right Tools in order for you to do that yeah you know and I think that'sthe biggest challenge I think we're going to face inthe next couple of years as people progress in their Cloud transformation Journey yeah awesome thank you for such an amazing discussion Jeff and thank you for being here today appreciate your time thank you guys thank you
The need for people with cybersecurity skills is in high demand. But do all companies need this in-house? Barsha sits down with Jeffery Wang of CyberCX to discuss this skill shortage and options that company can leverage.
