Monitor and run hybrid cloud data services
[Music] today everyone i would like to start with an acknowledgement of country i'm speaking from the land of medical people and i pay my respects to the elders past present and emerging with me today on all about data is luis casanova cloud practice manager at kytek with luis i've been working very closely in the last few months to support some of our common customers kaitec is an i.t services and consulting organization with a focus on delivering technology solutions for businesses kaitec is also a customer and partner of netapp and today with lewis we will focus our conversation on the basics of data management and data protection welcome luis thanks marcia thanks for having me it's great to be here thank you luis and it's so great to be um having this conversation i'm really excited about this conversation today um to start today's session could you tell us a little bit about yourself you know who you are what you do yeah sure absolutely so um my name is luis casanova i run the cloud practice at kytekis an australian managed service providerwith a heavy focus on enabling an assisting customers into the cloud journey um you know i'm personally i'm really passionate about helpingcustomers into customers intothe journey to the cloud and assist them in um you know um not only into that journey but uh providing uh tangible uh results forthe business as well so um yeahthat's great thank you for sharing that with us lewis and i know uh you know when you talk about tangible outcomes tangible benefits to a customer and in my interactions with you as well you know we've done multiple conversations with customers together um i can attest that you come across as a truetrusted advisor in those conversations right so i can really see the passion now and you know it's really great to be working um closely together nowumsowhen we talk about the journeys that the customers are on um you know and if we were to bring it back to the basics of data management and data protection you know what kind of conversations are you having with your customers today wellwe're having all sort of conversations and this is a really you know really a topic that really uh i'm passionate about um uh the traditional um i.t infrastructure businesses are uh you know there's hardly any of that anymore any every business is adopting cloud uh in one way or another uh what it means is uh if we go back to thebasics the data it's absolutely everywhere it sits on prem it sits inone particular cloud in a second cloud or in a private cloud uh with a provider so it is um there are conversations that we're having and it's veryimportant to obviouslyknow where your data is how to protect it andobviously how to take care of it observability and visibility of the data is extremely important for customers and with partnering with netapp which is a key uh strategic partnership for kaitec we are able to provide uh solutions forour customers yeah thank you there is that you know the this the strategic part of thatjourney you know taking them on a journey is really important right um but also i think visibility as you mentioned and also maybe cost effectiveness as well right like you've gotta look at what you're deploying does it make sense andthen you know does it make sense business wise you know return on investment as well yeah absolutely uh we obviously weassist our customers in the cloud journey in the cloud migrations it is very important toadopt a safe and secure cloud migration or cloud strategybut it is also as important to optimize what's been migrated ormoved tothat cloud right it's a it's not only yourtraditional lift and shift and away we go but um you know we the customers need the visibility uh onand on the advice on that expenditure in a public cloud and we are able to help them in that regardyeah um so with you know we talked about data and moving in different environments and the capabilities that we need to make the most of it as well um what sort of applicationsdo you know in your conversations and in the customers that we we're both commonly talking about you know just for the benefit of our audience what sort of applications are you um having conversations about with the customers well basically all sort of applications uhthere is obviously there's a quite a misconceptionfrom where we can see that um whenever the data is in the cloud it's fully protected and it's you know it's uh it's all back tab which is not quite the case uh there is obviously a responsibility model where the customer is responsible for protecting their own data that sits in the cloud soall those conversations like yourusualmicrosoft 365 tenancy with your emails andobviously your sharepoint libraries and onedrive we're having those uh data protection conversationsand obviously uh traditional workloads running incloudso you know if we are talking about putting together a strategy for data management and data protection you know wethink about a different sort of customer base large enterprises may already have systems in place they're looking to move to a different technology or changing their architecturemeat market you know small businesses um they might be on a journey as well what are some key considerations for somebody looking at you know taking a step back and looking at making sure that they've got the right data management and data protection strategy um that's a great question uh there is um obviously there's a lot to go and see thatum i think it's going back to two basics um at the end of the day you know technology is technology and it's going to work and sometimes when you compare technology in between vendors it's not much of a difference so i think it's really important to go back to uh the basics uh data visibility you know you need to know where your data is uh across the multiple platforms that you runcompliance is a big thing um you know you need depending on the industry that you're in uh you might have some um compliance uh regulations um that you have to adhere on and obviously data protection and disaster recovery youneed to protect the data you need to be able to recover your data no matter where there isand also what happens is your public cloud provider you know goes down uh and where are you gonna um you know when are you going to recover yourvital business applications too so uh those are probably the considerations that um yeah that i think are quite important like you've touched on some reallykey but basic points right um there's datamanagement there's data protection you know security is top of mind yes we know there's two-factor authentication needed but when it comes to data you know the you know we talk about we hear a lot about the three two one you know three copies of your data in two different media and at least one copy or off site right um and it'sreally interesting that you know dr is a big part of that data management and sometimes there's a little bit of confusion around i've got you know three copies of my data and i'm protected i've got a really good architecture but is that really so if you don't have an active environment that's a disaster recov recovery site right correct yeah that is correct uh also uh by talking to our customers what we find is that businesses generate an incredibleamount of data and they don't always know where all the data is has and they don't have the insights of when data was last accessibleso they could be leveraging um object storage to tier data from uh i guess theproduction race intoobject storage um you knowpretty easily done with uh fabric pool and on tap um also uh wewe're having this conversation with our customers andwe found that uh data sensing an extremelyuseful tool withcloud insights um uh data sense provides um a lot of um information about where your data is when it was last accessed what can you do with yet with that data that wasn't accessed for three years but you still need to keep it uh tomeet the compliance requirements and so on yeahawesome absolutely we have a lot of tools that can help with visibilitymanaging cost effectively um andcompliance as well right um so we've looked at you know the considerations for businesses when they put together a data management data protection strategy togetherwhat are some of the pitfalls that they should be aware of as well sure i think one of them i think i touched based on it before from what i see um talking to customers andprospects uh data visibility um customers need to be able to access a simple dashboard to know what's hot data what's called data and what's data that could be archived and thoseumand that information should be accessible uh right away youdon't need to be a you know a guru a storage administrator toaccess the data and provide a report to your management andmanagement should be able to access that and make you know data driven decisions uh that's to benefit business umanother uh another uh pitfall that i could mention is um when we talk to some customers theydon't have a quiteextensive and detailed disaster recovery plan like if you think about it the cost of developing a dr plan with uh regular testing andi'm proving that you can actually recover orbring the business online and gain in case of disaster compared to recover from a disaster without a sound business with a sound this has the recovery plan it is minimal so we um we put a lot of emphasis on disaster recovery plans like i'm an assassin recovery plans for our customers uh because uh it is very um look it is very powerful to be able to um recover uh from alisa star yeah awesome thank you i mean you've had some really simple basic points but you know it's really interesting how sometimes you miss the base basics right sometimes like you know um and it's really great that you are having those conversations that'samazing what's one key advice or takeaway you would like to leave our audience with today umi guess uh in look at fromwhat i can my view is that um the customers don't adopt cloud the cloud adopts the customer if that makes senserightthe category will end up in a cloud somewhere another uh because of different uh business requirements right uh i would say have a trusted advisor that can help you in the journey that's extremelyimportant uh not only forthatum cloud migration but as we mentioned beforeumthe different uh tools and around the optimization of cloud costs as well so my recommendation so it's been such a great conversation lewis it's really great uh for me to you know work with you but also hear from what you see out in your everyday job working on real customer scenarios and helping them you know run their businesses every day so it'sbeen really insightful thank you for your time today um thanks raja it was great to be here and uh yeah anytime thank you very much [Music]so[Music]you
