Monitor and run hybrid cloud data services
Hello, [music] I'm Lee Howard and welcome to the mic drop. >> And I'm Mike Hummer, partner field CTO at Net. We want to make sure that you stay informed with technology without taking a ton of time out of your day. >> Well, fantastic, Mike. Now, you travel the globe, you talk to a lot of folks. What are you seeing right now that is really top of mind, front and center for our partners and customers out there? >> Certainly, one of the biggest areas is security. Nobody wants to be in the headlines and it's in the back of everyone's mind, but they're not always sure of what they need to do to be successful. So, they really need to help our partners understand how they can use our feature set to design in from day one as they work with their customers. the security is woven into the fabric of how they do business rather than being added on after the fact and becoming a roadblocker along the way. >> So, you know, you talk about security being a large fabric that's like a giant Pashionita Afghan. Uh where do you start with something that big? >> It certainly is all-encompassing. But ransomware really is a good tangible way to kind of really wrap your hands around what do we do with security? And it also lays out how security needs to be approached in a layered fashion. It's not just a single feature or checkbox that's going to save you from ransomware. More of a design philosophy with a culmination of several features and functions working together to provide the detection, protection, and recovery that you need. >> Is NetApp. Do you consider us a security company? I thought you know we're data management. What's our role within this security posture? Well, we definitely are not a security company. It's not what is wakes us up every day. But we also recognize that we're the target. I mean, every security measure you put in place is to protect the data. That's really our area of specialty. And rather than just leave that to everyone else, we're making sure that we have features and functions that can be added to and augment to improve somebody's overall security posture. How are our partners really incorporating this into their practices?>> For quite some time, it has been segmented. And when it comes to security, looking at storage, it's just a black box. So this is really exposing to our partners a whole collection of tools that they can use to differentiate their security service as well as make it truly a part of the entire security landscape. Not just defending at the edge or looking for things in the middle, but really making sure that every step along the way they have tools, functions, ability to detect and monitor that will help build a far more comprehensive end toend security strategy. So you're speaking end to end. We're not just talking, you know, physical on edge. We're not just talking about core. There's got to be something out there for the hybrid cloud and you know what we're doing in uh cloud security.>> That certainly is another challenge. A lot of times cloud gets treated as a silo, special set of tools and that opens up gaps because if we have to correlate information we get from one tool in the cloud with what we have on prem there's the possibility for misinterpretation. The fact that NetApp has taken ONTAP and all the features therein and exported that directly into the cloud means that we can have security tools that span the two and give a much more cohesive single picture of how data is being used, accessed, and where there might be some holes and security flaws. >> Mike, thank you for installment number one here. The mic drop. >> Thank you. And you too. Mic drop. >> [music]
