[music] Hello everyone and welcome back to the last installment of the CS series. Chris and I previously talked about the sustainability and scalability of these systems and today I am here with Mr. Keith Aen to talk about the security. Welcome Keith. >> Hey Jamie, thanks for having me. Yeah, excited to have you on the show today. So, when I think of security in the data storage context, my mind immediately goes to ONTAP. Now, perhaps I'm a little biased here, but thinking about the comprehensive security suite of ONAP, I know there's something like 30 plus features in the latest ONTP release. So what can you tell me about ONTAP and the recent announcement that we had around ONTAP 1? >> You're absolutely right. Onap is the industry's most secure data management platform. It's something we've worked at since we built ONAP was making it highlysecure, highly resilient. Um but more recently, what I'm really excited to share isabout ONTAP 1. Something we've bundled and released initially with the C series, but now available for all of our platforms. where we really make all of that security technology available to all of our customers. >> So, you know, ONTAP compared to ONTAP one, is there any difference in the underlying software or can you talk a little bit about that? >> Yeah, there's been a bit of confusion around that. ONTAP 1 is still just ONTAP. We haven't changed the actual code. Um, but what we have changed is how we bundled and how we licensed the features. Historically, we had various value added bundles that customers had to pick and choose from to get the full functionality of ONAP andthat was complex. And so, we've radically simplified how you buy ONTAP by putting them all together in ONAP one where they get all licensed capabilities of ONAP all put together and things that other vendors just don't have. things like our security technologies like autonomous ransomware protection, snap lock, and evensome of our cloud-based technologies being able to replicate object-based data stores. I'm hearing two things, Keith. I'm hearing simplified, right? Customers love simple, and I'm also hearing comprehensive. It's got everything uh under one name now. So, that simple singular quote uh line item for them togo look at and purchase. Uh thinking about onap one ontap we have existing customers how do they take advantage of ontap one and what about new customers what's that experience like >> this is the you know the very exciting part of the first is we've simplified it for new customers the buying experience iseasier they no longer need to pick and choose from these value added bundles you know ontap one will be the choice foralmost every customer out there and that gives them some incredible cost predictability they know that their system is licensed regardless of what workloads going to be thrown at it. Um, and there is a lesser bundle that is available that doesn't have any of the data protection. You know, it [clears throat] doesn't have the security or things like snapmir tied into it. That's really for lab systems or testdev environments. Um, and those are the only two options that are available. Now, for existing customers over the years, we've have had different licensing models. Um, and again, we want to simplify that. So, what we're doing is we're making every system in the field the ability to true up to one or two levels. thevast majority of systems in the field will be able to true up at no cost to them up to on tap one and that's basically any system out there that has our data protection technologies snap mirror they're able to get the full capabilities of on tap one that's a lot of new licensing and the rest will still true up and they get some new licenses by trueing up to onap base but that will simplify also management in the field of every system in the field will now be one of these two levels a lot easier for customers to manage That sounds fantastic. One thing that I want to specifically call out here is you're saying systems in the field, you know, that's applicable to our A series, our C series, our fast systems, all our onap based storage. So file, block, object, onprim, in the cloud, justcomprehensive uh view there. Uh I also want to jump back. You mentioned autonomous ransomware protection. Can you spend a littletime speaking about what exactly that is and why it'sso special? >> Such a powerful capability. So, in a ransomware attack, there's really two things that you want to be sure of. One, you want to make sure you have an indelible copy of your data. An ONAP does that through Snaplock, which is included in our ONAP one offering. Um, but even having that indelible copy, the other thing you want to do is minimize the damage caused by a ransomware attack. And that's what autonomous ransomware protection does. Thesystem itself will autonomously look at your file systems and detect when an attack is occurring and react accordingly. That minimizes the damage that occurs from the attack and thus minimizing how much you have to do repair-wise in order to restore and thus minimize the downtime. That's a really valuable part. You know, there's that there's a in a ransomware attack, there's the cost of the ransomware, but there's also the cost of the downtime. And autonomous ransomware protection can minimize how much data is offline and by how short that data is actually offline for.Right. You mentioned that secondary cost that a lot of people forget to think about and consider uh whenthey hear the word ransomware. Another piece kind of a follow on to that autonomous ransomware protection. We just had a big announcement around ransomware. So I'll tee it up for you. What was the announcement? >> Yeah, we announced the ransomware recovery guarantee for C series. And what that means is we are so confident in you know what ONTAP can do and specifically what we've bundled into ONAP one with C series. We will guarantee the ability to recover data in a ransomware attack. You know essentially making that secondary copy of the data and then protecting that copy with SnapLock. Um, we're so confident in that snap lock technology, we will guarantee in the event of attack, customers are able to recover what they put into that lock into that snap lock data. Um, just a great, you know, demonstration of how confident we are in these capabilities. >> Love it. The C series protected by that uh that guarantee detect, protect, recover. Um, Keith, thank you so much for joining today. I really appreciate having you on. >> Thanks for having me, Jamie.
