BlueXP is now NetApp Console
Monitor and run hybrid cloud data services
(upbeat music) -: Hi, I'm Ling Wang at NetApp. As you may have heard, NetApp launched a brand-new family of all-flash block storage called ASA. It delivers everything you need for mission-critical and business-critical SAN workloads, including databases, VMware, and a lot more. It comes with guaranteed six nines uptime, guaranteed ransomware recovery, and guaranteed four-to-one storage efficiency, as well as unmatched sustainability and savings so that you can afford to modernize your entire SAN to all flash. If you have used the NetApp storage systems before, you'll love the ASA, as it comes with the same ONTAP software, which delivers one consistent data management and automation, one consistent data security and protection, one consistent experience across different protocols, different storage media, and different environments, on-premises or in the cloud. It is easy to set up and manage your ASA systems with ONTAP System Manager, You don't have to be an expert in ONTAP. All it takes is a few quick clicks in the simple and intuitive user interface. Let's take a look together. (upbeat music) NetApp's ASA is optimized for SAN. The workflows and behaviors are designed to be familiar and understandable to SAN administrators. Let me show you how simple it is to provision your storage. The main unit of block storage is a LUN. You can provision a new set of LUNs in one step with a name, a size, and host to map it to. ONTAP allocates the storage and maps it to your application hosts, and that's it. Now you're ready to use your ASA system. (upbeat music) Once you have provisioned your storage, it is easy to set it up for protection. Often, applications consist of multiple LUNs that need to be protected together. For those cases, put your LUNs into a consistency group. An example is a database that's striped across multiple drives or applications that separate table space from log space. Once you've grouped your LUNs, you can snapshot them all together, either on a schedule or driven through APIs. If you need a copy of the LUNs in another data center for disaster protection, the protect button sets that replication for you. That's all it takes to group your LUNs and protect them together. (upbeat music) NetApp's ASA makes it very easy to clone your application data. This helps with testing changes or upgrades to your application without disrupting the production data. Cloning a consistency group creates an instant copy of all the LUNs in the group. You can clone the active data or clone from a snapshot. Each cloned LUNs reuses the data blocks from its source, saving space. After the clones are created, you map the new LUNs to an application host, and they are ready for use. (upbeat music) You can get real-time ASA performance data easily in ONTAP System Manager. ASA tracks and reports real-time latency and throughput metrics. You can sort LUNs by their latency or throughput and drill in to see each LUN's performance. This will help you figure out if application performance issues are due to the storage or to some other layer in the stack. (upbeat music) You will be able to do some visual network diagnostics with ONTAP System Manager. ASA includes several visualizations to help you understand how your storage network is configured and operating. Selecting your host groups or LUNs shows the interfaces they are connected to with recent traffic details. This can help you figure out from the storage array side whether the clients are connected properly. (upbeat music) Over time, you add additional workloads to your ASA. Let me show you an example where a new application wants to stripe its data across four LUNs. You can create a consistency group with the new LUNs and map them to your application servers. We can specify the Linux application server hosts. If the server hosts are logged into the SAN, we can just pick them from the list. And we can turn on scheduled snapshots, too. After the operation is complete, you're ready to bring up the application. Now you have seen how simple it is to manage your ASA system. Start modernizing your SAN with NetApp ASA.
