IPv6 now supported in FSx for ONTAP

October 1, 2025

Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP now enables customers to access storage using Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This support makes it easier for customers to adopt IPv6, mitigating IPv4 address limits in their private networks.

With this update, customers can now access their FSx for ONTAP storage through IPv4, IPv6, or dual-stack clients. This will simplify adoption process by removing the need for complex IPv6 to IPv4 address translation infrastructure. IPv6 support is necessary for customers address exhaustion in their private networks or to satisfy government mandates such as US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) M-21-07.

IPv6 support for new FSx for ONTAP storage is now available in all AWS Commercial and AWS GovCloud (US) regions where FSx for ONTAP is available.
