BlueXP is now NetApp Console
Monitor and run hybrid cloud data services
December 12th, 2025
Google Cloud NetApp Volumes now offers robust support for encrypted backups, giving customers the flexibility to secure their data using either Google-managed encryption keys or their own customer managed encryption keys (CMEK). This enhancement means that organizations can align their backup encryption strategy with their internal security and compliance requirements.
With CMEK, customers maintain control over their encryption keys, leveraging Google Cloud’s Key Management Service (KMS) to generate, rotate, and revoke keys as needed. This is especially valuable for enterprises with strict regulatory or data sovereignty needs, as it allows for granular management and auditing of key usage. For those who prefer a fully managed experience, Google-managed keys remain available, ensuring that all backups are encrypted by default without additional configuration. This update strengthens data protection for Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, making it easier for organizations to meet compliance standards and safeguard sensitive information.
