As enterprises worldwide increasingly rely on Kubernetes for deploying and managing modern, cloud-native applications, robust data management and protection become crucial. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce NetApp® Trident 25.10, the latest version of our industry-leading open-source storage orchestrator for Kubernetes, designed to enhance scalability, performance, and resilience.

What’s new in Trident 25.10?

Trident 25.10 enhances scalability and performance by increasing parallelism. In this release, node parallelism for Fibre Channel (FC) is now generally available, and controller parallelism for NVMe/TCP and NFS/SMB is available as a technical preview. Here are some of the other key improvements:

Performance. Trident now supports the FC protocol for NetApp ASA systems, offering improved performance and reduced latency for data-intensive applications. This support enables a more efficient and responsive storage experience.

Advanced integration. To support AI and machine learning (ML) workloads running in Kubernetes, Trident now integrates with the new NetApp AFX product line. This integration allows your AI/ML applications to take advantage of the latest advancements in storage technology. Read more about the AFX product line in this blog.

Improved resilience. Trident 25.10 enhances the resilience of your Kubernetes clusters by automating volume failover when a Kubernetes node fails. This maintains high availability and minimizes downtime.

Greater customization. You can now specify the desired amount of CPU and memory for Trident containers. This feature helps Trident run efficiently, with enough capacity to handle any size of Kubernetes cluster.

Addressing your storage business challenges

Trident automatically provisions NetApp storage with advanced data protection features for Kubernetes applications, both on premises and in the cloud. Its ability to automate and simplify the provisioning, protection, and movement of Kubernetes workloads across hybrid and multicloud environments makes it indispensable.

In addition to its new functionality, Trident 25.10 continues to address critical business challenges.

  • Scalability and performance. With enhanced parallelism, Trident 25.10 efficiently manages larger Kubernetes environments and more complex workloads, maintaining high availability and reliability.
  • AI/ML workloads. Because Trident supports the new AFX product line, AI/ML workloads in Kubernetes can use advanced storage features, benefiting from the data management capabilities of NetApp ONTAP® software.
  • Resilience and high availability. The automated volume failover feature enables high availability and rapid recovery if a Kubernetes node fails, enhancing the resilience of your Kubernetes clusters. And with the customizable resource request feature, Trident maintains the right compute capacity to run safely.

Trident: The backbone of NetApp’s Kubernetes offering

Without Trident, NetApp wouldn’t have a comprehensive Kubernetes offering. Trident exposes the industry-leading features of ONTAP and provides additional advanced data protection and application-aware portability for disaster recovery and business continuity.

Trident 25.10 extends the number of NetApp systems available for Kubernetes workloads, ensuring that NetApp remains relevant and invaluable to our Kubernetes customers. By simplifying how you provision, protect, and move your Kubernetes workloads, Trident addresses the broad needs of developing and deploying enterprise Kubernetes applications.

Trident 25.10 continues to pave the way for strong, scalable, and resilient Kubernetes deployments, helping thousands of customers realize the full potential of the Kubernetes platform, whether on premises or in the cloud.
