Robert Bell: Hello, everybody, and welcome. Robert Bell: This webinar session is going to be about saving costs on Aws storage. Robert Bell: so I'd like to thank you all for joining. Robert Bell: My name is Robert Bell. I'm from the Netapp product enablement specialist team. Robert Bell: And what I want to do in this session is to show you a tool that you can use Robert Bell: to assess your potential storage costs in aws. Robert Bell: it's atool that is actually part of a product. Robert Bell: But I'm not gonna go into the details of all of the product. I just want to show you this specific feature. Robert Bell: So we will have Robert Bell: additional session webinar sessions about all of the products involved here. But this is really just sort of like a subset of something that is available that can really Robert Bell: be very useful, and because it's a free tool that doesn't require any. Robert Bell: It.doesn't have any costs. It doesn't have any Robert Bell: credential requirements. It's something that really everybody can use in a way Robert Bell: that can actually save a lot of give a lot of value save a lot of costs. Robert Bell: So I'll be showing a few slides, and then I'll also demonstrate the tool itself. Robert Bell: You're welcome to ask questions in the chat in the Q&A set section, and we will have people who will respond to these questions. Robert Bell: So Robert Bell: the tool that I'm talking about in this session is called Blue Xp Workload factory for Aws, which is a tool that's developed by Netapp. Robert Bell: But it's designed. It's a tool that's designed helping implement Amazon Fsx for netapp ontap. Robert Bell: So just to sort of get a feel of Robert Bell: the whether or not you're familiar with this. We would like to Robert Bell: have a little poll, and then I'll go back tothis slide again. Robert Bell: So you should see apoll coming up on your screen. Robert Bell: And yeah, you should see it now. Robert Bell: So we just like toknow whether you're familiar with Fsx for ontap, or in its full name, Amazon, Fsx and Netapp ontap. Robert Bell: Course, I'm very familiar, so I can't load. Robert Bell: Okay? Well, thank you to everyone for whoanswered Robert Bell: So just to sort of review that fsx Amazon fsx for netapp ontap or Fsx for ontap for short is Robert Bell: It is a storage system in Aws. Robert Bell: And, as I was saying. Robert Bell: workload factory, blue Xp workload factory is a tool that helps you implement this. So it helps you with the deployment operation and protection of this storage. Robert Bell: So Robert Bell: if we look at Fsx frontep, the storage that I mentioned. It's1 of the services that Aws provides. So you know, if they provide cloud services which include compute networking databases as a service security services, containers, analytics, developing tools and machine learning tools. There is also the storage tools, and these include storage services like Amazon, s. 3, Robert Bell: the ebs storage that usually have for the compute instances. And then there's file system storage like Efs and Robert Bell: Fsx and Fsx is a family of storage services. Robert Bell: There's Fsx. For windows, Fsx for luster, and Fsx for open Zfs. But there's also Robert Bell: a relatively new product called Amazon Fsx for netapp ontap. And this is the storage we're going to be talking about, because this is the storage that Robert Bell: Blue Xp workload factory uses as the infrastructure. Robert Bell: Now, I'm not going to talk about all of the features. But Robert Bell: Fsx is different from the other storage systems, but by the fact that it has built in Robert Bell: data management features which allow accessibility. Robert Bell: resilience, and protection for the data that's stored on it, security, features and features that reduce the Robert Bell: price per performance and mobility features. Robert Bell: The reason I'm showing you. This is because some of these features, for example, the data footprint, reduction and tiering the performance control snapshots and clones. All of these together Robert Bell: make Fsx for ontap are much more cost effective solution in some cases. Robert Bell: Now, the way to know whether it is Robert Bell: cost effective or not is really what we're going to be talking about here. Robert Bell: So now we go back to Robert Bell: workload factory. This tool that helps you deploy Fsx for ontap. Robert Bell: The way to access is just you go on any browser you can type, console.workloads.netapp.com. Robert Bell: Now what you will see. If you do that I'll show you I have it open right here. Robert Bell: It's right here. Robert Bell: If you're going to that URL that I mentioned, you're going to the workload factory screen. Robert Bell: Where there's the home screen. And then there are different sections here, which are also the sections you see on the home screen. Robert Bell: So this is a tool if you haven't signed. If you've never accessed it before, you have to sign, and you have to create a free account for the 1st time and then log in with this new account that you've created. Robert Bell: So Robert Bell: if we've gone into this and you can, you can do this now, actually, while I'm presenting this, you're welcome to go in andaccess it, or create thefree account. Robert Bell: and then follow what I'm doing. Robert Bell: what workload factory would will do in each section. It has a certain set of features for a specific workload. Robert Bell: so if that workload is databases, it would have features for deploying databases in the AI section. It has features for bringing data into AI in the Vmware section you have features for migrating vmware from on premises to Aws. But the1st section you would see in this product is called the Storage Section, which is really used for automating the deployment of this storage service. Robert Bell: I showed you before that the Storage Service has lots of different features, and just to make it easier to configure all of these features. You have automated deployment in workload factory. Robert Bell: It also lets you access all of thefeatures of Fsx for ontap, including some features that you might not necessarily get if you're accessing it through the Aws console. Robert Bell: And finally, there is a tool built into the storage section which helps you explore Robert Bell: cost savings. And this is what we're going to be talking about in this session over here. Robert Bell: So this is if we go back to the Robert Bell: console itself of the tool of the workload factory. Robert Bell: This is the storage section I mentioned. Robert Bell: And this is what we're going to be focusing on here, which is the explore savings button. Robert Bell: So if we have a look at an example of Oh, sorry! Robert Bell: Before we go into the examples, another poll that we wanted to do. Robert Bell: This will go up on the screen again. We will kind of learn. Get an idea, want to get an idea of what kind of storage you're currently using. Robert Bell: So if you could answer this question, choose out of ebs Fsx for windows and efs or others. Robert Bell: we'd be happy to hear that. Robert Bell: So while you're answering, I will move on to Robert Bell: a use case example. And this is really just to kind of just Robert Bell: to give you an idea of how our customers use thistool. Robert Bell: What you would need to know is sort of like what Robert Bell: is currently being used as the storage system and the basic configuration of that storage service. Robert Bell: So if we take, for example, a customer who is using Amazon elastic block store or ebs Robert Bell: in this case, it's a financial institution that is using ebs as a production database. Robert Bell: So that would be like the disks for the databases that they're using in their systems. Robert Bell: and they have 20 ebs. Volumes of 5 TB each. Robert Bell: With a required performance of 6,000 iops and 300 megabits per second. Robert Bell: Now I'll go back to the tool here. Robert Bell: and if I click on the explore savings button it will give me an option to choose between Amazon elastic block store ebs Amazon, Fsx for windows or Amazon efs. Robert Bell: So let's choose ebs Robert Bell: what happens. It will go into a screen which is kind of like a wizard or a calculator for saying how much you know. Is there going to be any potential cost savings here? Robert Bell: So if I'm that customer who has is using ebs for databases. Robert Bell: I go into the use case section here, which is really just a lot of different options of use, cases which typically have different Robert Bell: types of ebs for different types of performance and capacity. Robert Bell: So if I look through here, let's see Robert Bell: production database this one over here, that's what we have, and we said we had 20 volumes of 5 Robert Bell: 5 TB. Robert Bell: So whatwe can see here, what we've done here, and I can change the other settings, if necessary. Here it's6,000. So it's correct. Robert Bell: What I see on the right of the screen is an estimation. Robert Bell: Of course, this is not a hundred percent accurate, but it's an estimation based on what I put in Robert Bell: of how much I could save if I Robert Bell: was, would use fsx for ontap Robert Bell: as the storage layer for Robert Bell: these databases so databases eachdatabase would have its own disk, which is at the ebs volume. Robert Bell: But if I use Fsx Ront this storage service, it can create these block volumes. Robert Bell: 20 of these volumes of 5 TB terabytes each. Robert Bell: and it would cost less. So it'd be 6,589 Robert Bell: dollars savings every month. So that's like 24% savings. Robert Bell: And it also tells you here? Robert Bell: Why, Fsx. Would cost less than less in this case. Robert Bell: So if the capacity is more or less the same. Robert Bell: there are different costs. So for ebs, you're paying for the Iops Robert Bell: different cost structure in Fsx for ontap you pay for the throughput. Robert Bell: So you have a slight difference here. But there's also a big difference in the snapshots, because in ebs, for example, a snapshot is a copy Robert Bell: of the entire volume Robert Bell: on S. 3, whereas on Fsx Frontep there is a unique method of creating very, lightweight snapshots that hardly take up any space. In fact, the only space they take up is the changes Robert Bell: from the snapshot compared to theoriginal data. Robert Bell: So all in all it,is a certain amount of savings. Robert Bell: So this is just one example. Robert Bell: But we do want to show you some more. Robert Bell: some more different examples. For example. Robert Bell: a customer who's using Amazon Fsx for windows, a media company that is using this for general it file-based applications Robert Bell: with a 50 TB file system. Robert Bell: So in this case I can go back to the home screen if I start from the beginning. And, by the way, in this, I can use this without entering any credentials or anything. I haven't provided this tool with any information about my system. This is just based on best practice and based on statistical information. Robert Bell: So if I go to windows, file server and I choose the general it application. Robert Bell: And we said it was 50TB. Robert Bell: So here we can also see a comparison. It will be a different cost breakdown, because Fsx for windows has a different cost system. Robert Bell: But here, too, we can see how the basic capacity cost Robert Bell: is high islower for Fsx for long term. So in this case there is Robert Bell: 58% savings Robert Bell: for this specific case. Now, it's not enough just to say, Okay, well, this is the savings. You might want to have one more detail about that. So if you scroll down. Robert Bell: you can actually see the specific settings of this Fsx deployment like the Robert Bell: the type of deployment, the capacity. How much percentage is SSD storage the different Robert Bell: parameters of the performance. But you can actually go and view the calculations in a Robert Bell: with a proper breakdown. So if we look at the costs of Robert Bell: what?I will be paying for Fsx for windows. Here, then, there is a Robert Bell: very detailed breakdown exactly of Robert Bell: the cost of each part of each component of this, like the storage savings, the provision storage, the monthly cost for the capacity. Robert Bell: And all of this isdetailed here, so I can see a very specific Robert Bell: list of the information of each one of the components of the cost, and the same for the Fsx for on-tap calculation. Robert Bell: And this is something that you can actually Robert Bell: download as if I go back here. Robert Bell: I can also download that as a export as a Pdf, so if you want to look at that offline or share that with other people within the organization. Just to make this really detailed comparison, to see how you much, how you could be saving costs. Robert Bell: So theseare 2 examples. We have another example Robert Bell: with Efs. But you get the idea. The thing is that with each one of these if I go into, I know Robert Bell: each one of these, it will have a different structure, because each one of these comparisons is to a different storage type. Robert Bell: But the idea here is that you can really Robert Bell: get a quick overview. And it's pretty accurate. Not a hundred percent accurate like, I said, because we don't have the full details of what you've deployed and how you've deployed it. But if you go according to these estimations, you get a pretty good idea of Robert Bell: of how much the potential savings are. Obviously, if it's a small capacity, it's not going to be very significant. But the higher the capacity is, I mean, if you've got like one petabyte in this case Robert Bell: could be 40,000 Robert Bell: $40,000 savings every month or 50% savings on the storage cost. So this is the reason we're sharing this specific feature with you Robert Bell: is because it's really very easy to get an idea of potential cost savings. Robert Bell: And it's something that really is doesn't require anything in advance. You don't have to add any credentials and install anything. It's just a sas. Robert Bell: but it's it is part of a deployment tool. So obviously, if you are interested in Robert Bell: replacing this existing storage with the Fsx for ontap, you can actually go to Robert Bell: what's called the create button, either Robert Bell: which gives you options either to Robert Bell: deploy that on your own using apis Api requests, or cloud formation, or terraform Robert Bell: or this tool itself can actually do the creation for you. Robert Bell: However, if you want to actually create or deploy, that you then do have to add your credentials. Robert Bell: Now, another thing about this is that Robert Bell: if you've already added your credentials to Robert Bell: workload factory and it has access really to your aws cloud, then you can actually do something which is a lot easier, which is just youclick here, which is, go to storage inventory. Robert Bell: and then it will show you it will actually discover the effort existing storage that you have. Robert Bell: So if I choose this by clicking. Robert Bell: probably over this. Robert Bell: Okay, yeah, I was clicking on the wrong place. Robert Bell: if I have these environments installed, and I want to have a look at them. Robert Bell: I can then choose certain environments that are already in installed and do explore savings, and I would get Robert Bell: actual, accurate breakdown of based on the actual deployment that I have itself Robert Bell: of the savings. So this is a more detailed view. Robert Bell: which is also very useful if you've already connected it. Robert Bell: So as you saw, it's pretty simple. You just go into the main screen. You don't have to really bother about the other things and click on explore savings to do that. But just I do have to mention that Robert Bell: there is also a calculator for databases, which is something that you can also use, and an assessment tool for vmware. Robert Bell: So it is kind of like a tool that you can play around with andfind other things even without connecting it to your aws account. Robert Bell: So, moving back to the slides. Robert Bell: we saw these examples. So really, to summarize what we've seen here. Blue Xp workload factory is a tool that lets you easily access potential cost savings for Robert Bell: the stories that you have on aws, and it does so by checking how the storage Robert Bell: cost saving features of Amazon fsx phonetic. But ontap Robert Bell: could be applied in a way that would provide the same performance, the same service as other storage systems, but at a lower cost. Robert Bell: And it's not just sort of like a marketing tool. It's a tool that really does a breakdown Robert Bell: of the components of the cost based on the different parameters that you enter. Robert Bell: There's a lot of information there that you can actually learn from. And it really shows you Robert Bell: how your storage is being used and obviously meeting theperformance requirements that you need to meet. Robert Bell: And there is a way to actually Robert Bell: do this. You can do this without providing any aws credentials. But obviously, if you do, then you get a much more accurate Robert Bell: estimation. In any case, if you're seeing that it's approximately 50% savings. Obviously, it's something that's worth looking into Robert Bell: and we have just to show you a page resources. Page here. Robert Bell: So if you want to learn more about Robert Bell: workload factory about Fsx. Then please send us a message. You can respond to us and ask, we will send you the details of these resources. Robert Bell: And something that we will be happy to show you about. And likewise we're going to be doing lots of sessions like this about the different aspects of Robert Bell: workload factory and Fsx for ontap, so Robert Bell: we can show you more about thecool things that it can do in aws for anyone who's building new applications or migrating from on premises or doing AI Gen. AI Robert Bell: vmware databases. All of those are Robert Bell: things thatthis tool can be very useful for. Robert Bell: So now we can go back to the Q. And a. Robert Bell: I know that we have people. Robert Bell: We have people answering the Q&A chat now. Robert Bell: So hopefully we will. Robert Bell: You will all get your answers like, I said. We will send Robert Bell: more details and emails following up on this. And you're more than welcome to ask us anything. Robert Bell: and we can provide this information, the resources. Robert Bell: and any other questions that you have. Robert Bell: So I would like to thank you very much for attending, and Robert Bell: hopefully. We will see you in the upcoming webinars. Robert Bell: So thanks a lot for joining, and take care.
