Enterprises can now migrate attached storage and database workloads directly to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP with AWS Transform
SAN JOSE, Calif. – September 3, 2026 – NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), the Intelligent Data Infrastructure company, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced that AWS transform now supports Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, making it even easier for enterprises to move applications and data. AWS Transform is an agentic AI service that automates the discovery, planning, and migration of workloads to the cloud. Now generally available, customers can use AWS Transform to migrate attached storage from their on-premises and cloud estates directly to Amazon FSx for ONTAP.
“Cloud migration projects often take longer and cost more than expected because customers have to move applications, servers, networking, and storage separately,” said Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp. “With AWS Transform and Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, customers can simplify that process, reduce migration risk, and move to AWS faster without changing how their applications operate.”
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP supported by AWS Transform gives customers the option to migrate block storage as part of the same migration wave that handles compute and network, eliminating the need for intermediate storage platforms, separate migration tools, and the additional cost and risk they introduce. Whether migrating from NetApp ONTAP® or any other on-premises block storage, customers land on a fully managed, production-ready service that combines ONTAP's enterprise capabilities with the scalability and resiliency of AWS. After migration, customers benefit from built-in data protection, rapid cloning for development and testing, support for multiple application types, and storage efficiency features.
The AWS Transform capability will benefit customers looking to migrate or consolidate workloads in the cloud, including use cases such as:
- Virtualized Environments: Migrate virtual machine environments to AWS without separate storage migration tools.
- Enterprise Databases: Migrate business-critical databases to AWS while maintaining performance, protection, and operational consistency.
- Business-Critical Applications: Migrate enterprise applications and their associated data to AWS using a simplified migration process and a single managed storage service.
Amazon FSx for ONTAP is now available as a storage target for AWS Transform in all AWS Regions where both AWS Transform and Amazon FSx for ONTAP are available.
