Running enterprise workloads on Google Cloud just became easier with the availability of Google Cloud NetApp Volumes in every Google Cloud region. Customers can now leverage the maturity of file protocols and data management of NetApp® ONTAP® without compromising on the region of their choice.

Today, we’re thrilled to share with you that the Google Cloud NetApp Volumes Flex service level is now available globally in all 40 Google Cloud regions.

Map of the world

The Flex service level offers capabilities that complement the existing Standard, Premium, and Extreme service levels. Customers can create volumes as small as 1GiB from a storage pool that can be as small as 1TiB. The storage pool capacity can be increased in 1GiB increments up to 200TiB and provides a throughput of up to 1.6 GiB/sec. Flex offers shared throughput in the storage pool, meaning that any volume in the pool can use the entire throughput independent of its capacity. Together, these capabilities make it easier to rightsize capacity and performance to meet the application’s needs.

Regional volumes general availability

Flex regional volumes is now generally available in all Google Cloud regions, enabling customers to achieve business continuity in case of zone failures. Regional volumes give customers the option to specify the two zones in a region for high availability; data is synchronously replicated across these zones. A zone failure event triggers automatic failover to the replica zone without any admin intervention, which maintains data availability and enables seamless operations.

As with the Standard, Premium, and Extreme service levels, customers get advanced data management and protection capabilities like NetApp Snapshot™ copies, clones, and asynchronous cross-region volume replication with Flex zonal and Flex regional volumes. Together, Flex regional volumes with Snapshot copies and cross-region volume replication offer the highest level of protection for your data.

Customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) general availability

Customers can now use CMEK with their Google Cloud NetApp Volumes Flex service level to exercise greater control over the keys used to encrypt their data at rest. CMEK supports generation, usage, rotation, and revoking while using external key management solutions as needed. CMEK is now available with the Flex service level zonal and regional volumes in all Google Cloud regions. More information about CMEK is available in this blog and documentation
