NetApp is excited to announce the general availability of NetApp® ONTAP® Connector for Amazon Q. This new connector seamlessly and securely synchronizes enterprise data from your ONTAP file systems with Amazon Q Business, empowering employees to quickly access relevant information, generate new content with enterprise context, and enhance productivity through insightful data-driven tasks.
Amazon Q Business leverages generative AI to provide rapid insights and actions for knowledge workers by connecting to multiple enterprise data sources. However, integrating unstructured data file repositories and repositories distributed across cloud and on-premises environments has been a challenge, often requiring costly and complex data migrations or duplications. Ensuring granular file permissions and preventing sensitive data leakage adds further complexity. The NetApp ONTAP Connector for Amazon Q addresses these challenges by enabling easy connection of data sources from ONTAP systems to Amazon Q. This results in simplified, secure, and cost-effective data connectivity, leading to faster productivity outcomes. Utilizing NetApp’s SnapMirror and FlexCache technologies, data can be replicated or cached to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and seamlessly connected to Amazon Q Business. The connector extends NetApp’s security-first approach by maintaining granular access permissions, ensuring users only access data they are authorized to see. Additionally, it safeguards Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by redacting sensitive data before it is made available to Amazon Q.
Deploying and managing the NetApp ONTAP Connector for Amazon Q is straightforward via BlueXP Workload Factory. To get started, verify that your AWS environment meets all the necessary requirements, including having an Amazon Q application already deployed. Then go to workload factory to configure the connector as part of your infrastructure setup. Point the connector to an SMB share or NFS export on the FSx for ONTAP file system in your AWS account and synchronize the data with Amazon Q. The synchronization process extracts the text from source documents and inserts into Amazon Q index for search and retrieval by the Q applications.
