AWS has introduced the next-generation Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP file systems with higher scalability and enhanced flexibility compared to the previous-generation. These second-generation file systems can be created or expanded with up to 12 highly available (HA) pairs of file servers, allowing users to scale up to 72 GB/s of total throughput (up to 6 GB/s per pair). This offers the flexibility to scale performance and storage to meet the needs of the most demanding workloads.
Customers with compute-intensive workloads may require the higher throughput provided by a file system with multiple HA pairs. Now, next-gen file systems allow users to scale by adding HA pairs and adjust their throughput capacity, providing additional flexibility to optimize a workload’s performance over time. Multi-AZ file systems can be created using a single HA pair in each zone and zones can be scaled up to 12 HA pairs each. Previously, customers could create a file system with multiple HA pairs but could not scale and adjust throughput later.
Second-gen file systems are available today in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), and Asia-Pacific (Sydney). To learn more, visit the FSx for ONTAP user guide.
