Selective file recovery in NetApp Volumes

June 30th, 2025

Starting today, customers will be able to preview capabilities to recover one or more files from a backup, without needing to restore the entire volume first. This enhancement brings significant value to Google Cloud NetApp Volumes by making data recovery faster, more flexible, and more cost-effective for organizations of all sizes.

Previously, restoring lost data meant customers had to initiate a full volume restore, which could be time-consuming and resource-intensive. Restoring an entire volume—especially when only a handful of files are needed—could delay business operations by hours or even days, impact productivity, and incur higher operational costs. With the introduction of granular file restore, businesses now have the agility to recover just the needed files, dramatically reducing the time and effort required for data recovery.

This feature is particularly beneficial in scenarios involving accidental file deletions, overwrites, or corruption—common risks in today’s fast-paced digital environments. IT teams can respond to incidents more rapidly, ensuring minimal disruption to critical workloads hosted on Google Cloud NetApp Volumes. Furthermore, by eliminating unnecessary full-volume restores, organizations can better optimize their storage consumption and backup strategies, which translates to tangible cost savings.

Additional details on NetApp Volumes can also be found in the product documentation.
