General Availability of Manual Quality of Service with ONTAP-mode for Flex Unified

Aug 31st, 2026

Google Cloud NetApp Volumes (GCNV) now supports Manual Quality of Service (MQoS), bringing configurable throughput and IOPS to Flex Unified to ONTAP-mode. This feature provides a granular performance management strategy, allowing customers to guarantee predictable per-volume performance and prevent "bully" volumes from monopolizing storage pool resources. MQoS allows customers to right-size performance across their applications by controlling resource allocation through QoS policy groups (QPGs).

Key capabilities offered include assigning throughput and IOPS limits per policy group and ability to modify them later based on changing workload requirements, creating QPGs to share or dedicate performance across multiple volumes, and dynamically adjusting volume performance on the fly by changing policy groups.
