Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, a fully managed file storage service in Google Cloud that provides high-performance, enterprise-grade file storage, announces support for cross-regional replication of large capacity volumes deployed in the Premium and Extreme service levels. Large capacity volumes enable customers to provision a single volume starting at 15TiB that can be scaled up to 1PiB dynamically in increments of 1GiB. Customers managing elastic compute solutions supporting Electronic Design Automation (EDA), AI agent creation, or managing peta-byte datasets can now configure volume replication based on NetApp SnapMirror technology.
Prior to this functionality, customers had to rely on Snapshot copies and backup processes, or spread data across multiple, small volumes to protect large datasets from regional outages. SnapMirror asynchronously replicates data between Google Cloud regions and uses an incremental forever method to efficiently manage data transmissions. Cross-region replication provides data mobility and disaster recovery between Google Cloud regions within the same geographic region for petabyte-scale applications.
Additional details on NetApp Volumes can also be found in the product documentation.
