AWS Backup now supports backing up and restoring Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP FlexVol and FlexGroup volumes. ONTAP FlexVols are logical storage volumes where data is stored, and ONTAP FlexGroups are collections of these FlexVols. Both individual FlexVols and the FlexGroups are important components of how customer data is stored, and the ability to have backup procedures for each are critical when protecting data.
You can now use AWS Backup’s policy-based capabilities to centralize and automate data protection of Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP FlexGroup volumes alongside other supported AWS services (spanning compute, storage, and databases) and hybrid workloads. Previously, customers could only protect FlexVol volumes using AWS Backup.
AWS Backup support for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP FlexGroup volumes is available in all Regions where AWS Backup support for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP is available.
