Azure NetApp Files, a native, 1st-party file storage service in Azure that makes it easy and cost-effective to run file-based applications in the cloud using the same protocols and tools customers rely upon on-premises, has announced the general availability for large volumes that provides support for volumes up to 500TiB in capacity in a single namespace with added support for cross-region and cross-zone replication. With this capability, customers can quickly and safely deploy workloads with large datasets.
The Azure NetApp Files large volume feature enables customers to provision a single volume starting at 50 TiB up to 500 TiB. Azure NetApp Files large volumes enable a variety of use cases and workloads that require high performance and larger volumes with a single namespace like High-Performance Compute (HPC) for Electronic Design Automate (EDA), AI/ML model training, and large data content repositories. Support for cross-region and cross-zone replication protects data in Azure NetApp Files volumes across regions or availability zones against outages using asynchronous replication, which moves only changed data blocks incrementally and periodically from a source to a destination volume. This advanced storage-based replication helps customers achieve their RPO/RTO goals easily. Without storage-based replication, customers would have to implement their own replication solution for large volumes to recover after a regional or zonal outage or service degradation.
The Azure NetApp Files large volume feature is now generally available in select regions. Additional details on large volumes and cross-region and cross-zone replication can be found in the product documentation.
