Azure NetApp Files, a native, 1st-party file storage service in Azure that makes it easy and cost-effective to run file-based applications in the cloud using the same protocols and tools customers rely upon on-premises, has released cross-zone replication to replicate your Azure NetApp Files volumes asynchronously between availability zones (AZs) within the same Azure region to ensure data availability in the event of a zone failure. This feature enhances data protection and availability, crucial for maintaining uninterrupted operations.
Cross-zone replication transfers data in-region between Azure NetApp Files volumes in two different availability zones using a space efficient format, only transferring changed blocks over the network minimizing the amount of data transferred and shortening replication time. Using cross-zone replication provides customers with smaller RPO intervals and quicker recovery times without the need for an additional host-based data replication solution. In addition to the built-in replication capability, customers are not charged for network transfer, making this a cost-effective solution for data availability.
Cross-zone replication is available in all AZ-enabled regions. To learn more about Azure NetApp Files double encryption, visit the documentation page.
