I like challenges. I’m pretty sure that we would all say that we like challenges, whether or not that’s true. Even if someone really doesn’t like an occasional challenge, are they going to say “No, I’d rather just lie around drinking Mai Tais all day”? Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Challenges come in many forms. Take my expense reports for example. For purely illustrative purposes, let’s say that I had several questionable expenses from my last trip. Do I submit them with the rest of my report? Sure – that’s a challenge! After all, how does one know where “the line” is if one doesn’t occasionally step over it?

I hope that my manager doesn’t read this stuff.

The LinkedIn survey

NetApp recently wrapped up a survey on LinkedIn around the biggest challenges in managing an Oracle Database. While all three survey choices require significant resources to address, I’m surprised that “complex cloud integrations” is so far ahead of the other two choices.

Solving the Oracle Database challenges

NetApp has been solving Oracle Database challenges for our customers for decades. Let’s break the survey results down.

Slow backups/restores. Getting back to business after your not-so-very-good-day is crucial for the health of the business and your career. I discussed NetApp® offerings for backup and disaster recovery of Oracle Databases in a blog post, Are you protected? Oracle Database protection and availability. Another way to ease the backup and recovery issues is to automate it.

Complex cloud integrations. Been there. Done that. See for yourself how NetApp has helped Italgas move a large number of Oracle Databases to the cloud. Do you have Very Large Databases in Google Cloud? You’ll be interested in this technical report by NetApp’s Allen Cao and Niyaz Mohamed.

Inefficient DB consolidation. Oracle’s multitenant architecture for its database is the linchpin of effective database consolidation. NetApp SnapCenter® backup management software makes it easier to consume the benefits of Oracle’s multitenant architecture.
