Created by NetApp with the support of the World’s Largest Lesson in partnership with ReWrite Edu, Data Explorers is an action-packed Minecraft Education world where players can develop data and sustainability skills.

About the world

In an inter-dimensional adventure, students will learn about data and how it can be used in real-world environmental careers, to help achieve the United Nations’ Global Goals (or SDGs). 

This experience builds foundational data literacy and sustainability competencies to support students in their future lives and careers. It is aligned with curriculum standards including the UNESCO Greening Education Curriculum.

Getting started

Download Minecraft: Education Edition or Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on your favorite device.  

  1. Anyone with access to Minecraft at home or at school will be able to play this world. The world will be free to download on Minecraft: Education Edition as well as Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.   
  2. Download the Data Explorers world and lesson plans  
  3. Upload the Data Explorers world into Minecraft, grab your lesson plan, and play

Through our Data Explorers program and more, we’re on a mission to inspire and engage young minds with data/AI literacy, preparing them for tomorrow’s world.

The World’s Largest Lesson is committed to introducing children and young people everywhere to the UN Global Goals (or SDGs). It is delivered in partnership with UNICEF and UNESCO. It has reached millions of teachers and students worldwide to build sustainability skills, including a focus on harnessing data for social and environmental problem solving.

The Global Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interconnected goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and signed by all 193 member states. They are intended to be achieved by 2030.

Minecraft Edu

Minecraft Education Edition prepares students for the future, building future-ready skills like creativity, problem solving, and systems thinking, and nurturing a passion for play. It explores real-world issues in immersive, imaginative worlds to drive meaningful learning. Minecraft Edu also prepares students for a digital future through computational thinking with in-game coding and curriculum. In addition, it builds social-emotional skills through teaching empathy and digital citizenship.
