The October 4 announcement from Google Cloud is a significant breakthrough for the healthcare and life sciences industries. The Medical Imaging Suite on Google Cloud is the ultimate toolkit of integrated technologies that makes imaging data more accessible, interoperable, and useful. With this new solution, healthcare professionals can be confident that their imaging data is available, protected, and discoverable, using Google Cloud-backed technologies for better security and discoverability.

Intersection of healthcare and technology

For healthcare, and for medical imaging workloads in particular, being able to move large image files to the cloud at will, while maintaining security and data integrity, is paramount. Imaging data is highly valuable, particularly for artificial intelligence models. But the value of that data is often locked away on antiquated storage solutions. Making sure that data is protected across endpoints and environments is crucial for protecting it from ransomware and other cyberthreats that can devastate an organization.

With NetApp® storage and services, organizations can simplify management of their medical imaging data and quickly replicate or migrate any on-premises imaging repositories to Google Cloud’s secure, scalable, and managed cloud storage environment. NetApp cloud data services give healthcare and life sciences teams the cutting-edge capabilities they need to index, discover, audit, and query their data to develop AI data cohorts at scale.

For organizations managing hybrid imaging workloads, NetApp offers seamless on-premises to cloud data management with a fully managed, scalable, enterprise-grade development environment. But the real game changer here is not just the storage — it’s how the Medical Imaging Suite enables healthcare organizations to unlock the value of their imaging data by leveraging Google Cloud’s analytics, AI, and machine learning tools and expertise. It's an exciting intersection of healthcare and technology, and we’re excited to be a part of it.

NetApp understands the need to give organizations confidence and control of where their data resides without having to compromise on performance, accessibility, or scalability. No matter the use case or workload, healthcare organizations can trust that their data is always available and always protected.

Don’t just take our word for it — here’s what Google Cloud has to say about NetApp’s role in their new Medical Imaging Suite solution:

“NetApp is an industry leader for image data management, and we’re proud to build on our strong partnership with NetApp to offer a secure, hybrid ecosystem that customers can leverage to accelerate the development of AI and ML for medical imaging,” says Alissa Hsu Lynch, global lead for MedTech Solutions at Google Cloud. “Together, Google Cloud and NetApp can help organizations move high-performance file workloads to the cloud with ease while delivering enhanced data protection, security, and compliance.”
