Good day folks. It's Chris Gonzo Gondic here for another NetUP newsworthy minute. Today is a special occasion because I'm actually out at one of our partner sites, one of our longest standing and longest running partners uh with NetApp I seek and today I'm talking about security and resiliency in data in cloud data services. So with me I'm very privileged to have Josh Adterbury and Josh is head of customer and cloud at welcome Josh. >> Thank you very much for having me here. >> Fantastic. So Josh tell us a bit about yourself and your role at ISC. >> Uh so we'll start with my role at I seek. So at as you pointed out I'm head of technology customer and cloud. Uh so what that means is I look after the cloud product set uh as well as essentially the pre-sales capability in the business. >> Fantastic. So Josh is has been a strategic partner with NetApp for many years and uh you're kind of known for pioneering uh object storage technology uh in Australia. Um can you tell us a little bit about that and uh yourpartnership with NetApp? >> Yeah, sure. So I think with object we saw a number of things happening in the market. So we saw the release of object itself obviously as a storage mechanism. Uh what we then saw were the hyperscalers start to release it as a service to the market as well. So you were out there before then. [clears throat] [clears throat] [clears throat] >> Um we weren't there before them but we saw that release to market. Uh and then obviously there's thattransition of enterprise applications changing to use object. Um we saw people dealing with multi cloud data resiliency. Uh andas part of that um what we didn't see was a local sovereign offering within Australia for object. Uh so based on that is when wekind of decided to look at offering object as a service locally. Uh and then I guess the second question was what would we do about a vendor in that case? So NetApp were our existing storage partner right? So essentially our cloud platform is built on NetApp storage. >> Uh so we chose to engage with NetApp uh have a look at the object offering uh and then essentially look at productizing that and bring it to the market.>> Fantastic. >> Fantastic. >> Fantastic. >> So Josh tell me what are the important aspects of a secure and resilient cloud data service? So with cloud data services thesecurity and resiliency of those services are obviously first of all enabled by multi-sight policy right so you have multiple copies of the data uh in addition to that policy whatpeople don't often think about is one the location of the data so where it's stored and then secondly who owns the facility where it's stored uh so when we engage around thisconcept it's definitely multiple copies of it uh but then you need to look at where it is and who owns it and I see as a digital infrastructure provider that that's exactly where we play. So we own the data centers, we own the cloud platform. Uh so we can then facilitate that >> almost like a sovereign cloud. >> It's exactly what it is. Y so it's all within country um predominantly in Queensland because we are a local Queensland organization. We do have presences in all the other states but you know the main platform is in Queensland.>> That's fantastic. >> So Josh tell me what type of workloads do you typically see customers get the best value out of object storage service? So I think the best value is it's a bit of a funny question at times. So we see I guess you have the most common use cases uh which I'll probably cover off first. So we definitely have a high demand for backup target. Um absolutely object is always thought of as being a backup target. Uh I do have another customer who's using it for tape rehydration. Okay. rehydration.Okay. >> So you know they don't want onrem tapes anymore at all. So they still need that data durability. Yep.So definitely better durability into our platform. So they're in the process of rehydrating those tapes uh into object. Uh what I also see are [clears throat] customer we have another use case from a customer who have a traditional file platform [clears throat] and with that traditional file platform they're replacing it with object. So they're pushing all that data into object and then they have a search front end over the top of it. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So some modern applications are using object storage in different way. Fantastic.>> So um I guess uh I'll finish off with something that's very important and prominent right now. We've seen some high-profile, you know, breaches in the media and things like that. Um, you know, you spoke about more customers wanting to use object storage as their backup repository, long-term retention, durability, that sort of thing. Can you tell me how object storage can help with cyber resiliency and recovery assurance? >> Yeah. So, object by design has uh inherent resiliency through multicight replicas and arasia coding. Uh and I think then if you add in object locking as well, you then end up with a I guess a type of immutability and logical air gapping to provide you that last line of defense.>> Oh, fantastic. So it can kind of be uh not just uh I can store your data for long periods of time and get it back for you when you need it, but you can almost assure through that kind of logical air gapping thatdata is there to be restored from. >> Yeah, absolutely you can. Right. And then that's the benefit of the platform. >> And that that's a great thing with these more increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks that are not just going after your data, they're going after your backups and your long-term retention tiers as well. And as more and more of these services are online, they become part of the attack surface area. >> Josh, thank you so much for your time.
