NetApp® SANtricity® Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP) technology represents a significant advancement in storage system data protection and data management. As disk capacities continue to grow without sufficient increases in data transfer rates, traditional RAID rebuild times are getting longer, even up to several days. This slow rebuild results in much more time with degraded performance and exposure to additional disk failures.
With five issued patents, DDP technology is designed to deliver worry-free storage through effortless management and self-optimization while maintaining predictable performance under any condition, including recovery from drive failures. With up to four times faster rebuild, DDP technology significantly reduces exposure to multiple cascading disk failures, providing excellent data protection.
How to Utilize Dynamic Disk Pools Technology
With the DDP feature, storage administrators can group sets of disks that have the same media type and capacity into a pool topology. All the drives in a pool participate in the I/O workflow and can coexist with traditional RAID drives as well. DDP technology provides faster drive rebuilds than with RAID 5 or RAID 6 and removes the complications of RAID group and hot spare configurations, so storage administrators can focus on higher value tasks.
