Almost a decade in the making, and built on three decades of data expertise, the NetApp hybrid cloud journey is founded on strategic acquisitions, innovative solutions, management simplicity, and consumption flexibility—with teams of specialists and trusted partners to help you at every step of your digital transformation journey. No matter where your application resides today—in the cloud or on-premises or across both for data protection—NetApp unlocks the best of both worlds.

Growth of cloud adoption

As cloud adoption continues to expand rapidly, organizations around the world are looking to the cloud to solve a myriad of business challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has, in fact, accelerated digital transformation as organizations raced to both increase efficiency and improve customer experiences. In a global survey in June 2020, 97% of businesses reported speeding up their digital transformationhttps://www.statista.com/statistics/1200465/covid-digital-transformation-global/.

What this means is that more data than ever before is moving to the cloud or being generated on the cloud—according to Statista, 50% of corporate data is now stored in the cloud, compared to 30% in 2015https://www.statista.com/statistics/1062879/worldwide-cloud-storage-of-corporate-data/.

All this growth brings its own challenges. Customers ask us to help make it easier to move applications like SAP, and complex databases like Oracle and SQL-Server to the cloud. They tell us they need on-premises or better latencies, performance, security, and reliability. And they tell us they really need to find a way to control their escalating cloud costs and monitor their vulnerabilities.

At NetApp we are innovating, and we are listening.

Cloud committed to serving all cloud customers

At NetApp, we partner with all major public cloud providers to ensure that customers gain the benefits of our storage expertise and experience no matter which cloud they choose.

We have now deepened each partnership, co-engineering services directly with the cloud providers, enabling their customers to buy directly from them. This simplifies purchase, billing, operation and support, eliminating the need for additional contracts and freeing up customers to focus on added value.

We recently announced Amazon FSx on NetApp ONTAP, a fully managed service for AWS customers offering the full set of ONTAP features—directly from the AWS Management Console, API and CLI. It is easy to integrate with your NetApp Cloud Insights dashboard, optimize on Spot and to use with NetApp Cloud Manager for full control and flexibility.

We just announced a new integrated solution for Google Cloud customers: Google Cloud VMware Engine with Cloud Volumes Service is a fully managed service that lets customers with VMware-based applications migrate to the Google Cloud—with no need to change apps, tools, or processes. This service is sold, billed, and supported by Google Cloud and run by NetApp.

It started when we reimagined ONTAP with Microsoft and introduced Azure NetApp Files, a fully managed shared file storage service for Microsoft Azure customers who needed high performance and high reliability for their business-critical workloads. We have been expanding the service into new regions every other week and are adding new features ever since and it has become one of the fastest-growing Azure services ever.

Microsoft just announced the full ungated general availability of Azure NetApp Files along with Azure NetApp Files Backup and cross-region replication. Both features increase data protection for customers who simply cannot afford downtime, both delivered as fully managed services.

Expanding Spot…again

Spot by NetApp is a quickly expanding portfolio that helps you operate and optimize cloud infrastructure for applications in the public cloud.

I’m delighted to introduce Spot Security, which offers a 360-degree view of your cloud infrastructure with both security and compliance postures. This new service allows you to define your scope and provides easily defined service maps, making it fast and easy to see prioritized threats at-a-glance and to understand and immediately action the most critical security issues.

Spot PC, our new desktop as a service, has just become generally available, meaning more organizations can take advantage of this increasingly popular service that offers simplicity, security and a single price point to organizations struggling to enable a remote workforce while maintaining the necessary controls. The best news is that Spot PC is very affordable, costing 50% less than competitive solutions and even less than DIY options—without the risk.

We continue to invest in our Spot CloudOps portfolio, adding features such as intelligent traffic flow and extending stateful Elastigroup to Microsoft Azure, as well as developing Ocean Insights to provide insights into Kubernetes cluster efficiency, and identify performance and cost optimizations.

With Spot Eco and our plans to acquire CloudCheckr, we will expand our FinOps portfolio with continuous optimization plus important security and governance capabilities. We will enable partners to operate FinOps and SecOps solutions for their customers.

Simple, single pane view of hybrid cloud data

NetApp Cloud Manager provides a single canvas to manage, monitor, develop with, and automate data fabrics in the hybrid cloud environments. No matter how complex your environment, with multiple cloud providers, on-premises data, and multiple accounts, Cloud Manager keeps it simple with an easy-to-use GUI, CLIs and APIs that helps you reduce complexity and cost.

We’ve now improved integrations for Cloud Backup and Cloud Data Sense, increasing capabilities for dark site, Kubernetes backup and restore. We’ve also fully integrated Active IQ into Cloud Manager so recommendations can easily be seen and taken, providing more support for hybrid cloud customers, and helping on-premises customers better understand and access cloud services.

We’ve developed new services like application templates for Cloud Volumes ONTAP to simplify and automate common deployments and to manage drift. We have created a convenient digital wallet with flexible licensing capabilities.

In the cloud, on-premises, or both, NetApp has your front and your back

End-user spending on public cloud services is predicted to be $396 billion by the end of this year and to increase 21.7% totaling $482 billion next yearhttps://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2021-08-02-gartner-says-four-trends-are-shaping-the-future-of-public-cloud. It’s clear that cloud migration and cloud creation will continue to accelerate, making it ever-more crucial to have a trusted partner help you optimize your data for the journey. At NetApp we have 30 years of experience and innovation, and we partner with all the top cloud providers to help you get where you need to be. We speed up and simplify even the most complex journeys, and we are making huge strides in helping you control your costs and risks at the same time. Simply put, we continue to deliver on our mission: More cloud. Less cost.
