This is an exciting time for those of us who see the transformation Kubernetes will deliver to the enterprise. We want to congratulate our friends at Portworx on their recent acquisition by Pure Storage. It’s great to see that Pure Storage and others are starting to recognize the importance of Kubernetes.
As part of that move toward greater Kubernetes adoption, we announced this week the availability of NetApp® Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud in thirteen regions around the world. As a result of our Google partnership, the software-defined Cloud Volumes Service is powered by Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and runs NetApp ONTAP® data management software as a set of containers. Many of the key wins are well described in this post by our friends at Google.
We also added Ocean to our portfolio when we acquired Spot by NetApp. Ocean is a serverless infrastructure engine that takes away the hassles of scaling and managing containers and nodes in a Kubernetes cluster. With Ocean, we are delivering hands-free infrastructure for cloud native applications at 90% lower cost – you won’t find anyone else that can offer this today!
And, on the Kubernetes management front, we are delivering Project Astra to simplify how IT can run data-rich workloads in Kubernetes. We are excited by the feedback from early adopters who have been running Project Astra. To get the latest news about how the cloud service more broadly available, we invite you to join us for our on-demand webinar about Project Astra.
Taking a step back and looking at the broader ecosystem news last week — the plans by Nutanix to advance into public cloud, VMware’s plans to open vSphere Kubernetes support, and the acquisition of Portworx by Pure Storage – we are excited to see how we all share a common view of the IT landscape. We at NetApp have been investing in the critical areas of cloud, Kubernetes, and data for years. And we see these three announcements as a sign of how customers will get the best experience as we all move from an innovator phase to a more mature era of Kubernetes adoption.
It’s a good outcome that reinforces a common view that new workloads are going to be driven by Kubernetes.
Keep the Kubernetes momentum going. Be sure to join our webinar, and in the meantime, you can learn more about Project Astra on NetApp Cloud Central.
Brush up on the latest trends and developments in cloud, on premises, and everywhere in between. This is where it all gets real, with a cherry on top.
Explore a wide range of open forums where you can post questions, share answers and just generally get smart on all the NetApp technologies that matter most to you.
