Siemens PLM Software - Teamcenter Backup and Recovery

Key Points:
  • Drastically reduce the time required to make full backups.
  • Maintain end-user productivity at all times.
  • Reduce your backup window from hours to seconds.
  • Enable more frequent backups.

Deliver better protection for your Teamcenter data at lower cost.

NetApp® backup capabilities are integrated with Teamcenter for near-instantaneous, consistent backup and recovery of Teamcenter database and data volumes.

NetApp Snapshot™ technology drastically reduces backup windows from hours to less than a minute.

Increase backup frequencies for faster restores and minimal work loss. Easy recovery of accidentally deleted files can be performed without burdening the storage administrator.

You can significantly reduce the overhead of administering backup and recovery of your Teamcenter data with fully integrated, powerful, yet easy-to-use scripts.

The following table gives an overview of the steps involved to create a consistent backup of Teamcenter data volumes and the underlying database—in this example Oracle®. This whole process typically takes less than a minute.

Step
1 The backup software requests Teamcenter to freeze all operations on TCFS volumes and sends a cautionary message to the user to save all files. Teamcenter is placed in read-only mode once there are no open Teamcenter files in the system.
2 The underlying Oracle database is put in "hot" backup mode, allowing Teamcenter to stay available 24/7. This is accomplished by ensuring that the database is in archivelog mode and each tablespace is put in "hot" backup mode.
3 The backup software initiates a Snapshot copy on the NetApp system of the TCFS volumes and the volume containing the Oracle database files. NetApp Snapshot copies are created in less than one second, regardless of the size of the volume or the level of activity on the NetApp storage system.
4 The backup software requests Teamcenter to resume normal mode. Each tablespace is taken out of "hot" backup mode and the database is returned to nonarchivelog mode. The TCFS volume is placed back in normal mode.
