Report Based on a Study Conducted by Oliver Wyman
An April 2008 study by the global strategy consultancy Oliver Wyman outlines the strategic value that development and test environments provide to SAPJ implementations. Based exclusively on interviews with IT executives and storage managers from large enterprises across various industries and geographies, the study reveals that NetAppJ solutions yielded business breakthroughs with significant cost and time savings in SAP environments compared to EMC CLARiiON™, EMC Symmetrix™ and HP EVA™.
Oliver Wyman Study Key Findings
The four main drivers of innovation within SAP development and test storage environments are mitigate risk, achieve faster time to deliver business value, lower data management cost, and increase flexibility.
- Mitigate risk: Mitigating risk (through increasing the quality of SAP production instances) was the top driver of change in SAP development and test environments.
- Faster time to deliver business value: Reduction in time spent in development and test cycles led to a direct business impact, as customers were able to quickly respond to the company’s changing needs.
- Lower data management cost: SAP customers using NetApp solutions realized data management cost savings of 40% to 64% compared to customers of EMC and HP.
- Infrastructure flexibility: Storage infrastructure flexibility is also a driver for development and test environments, although not directly identifiable as financial savings, in organizations that have constant change, those with a high level of complexity, or with numerous support instances and/or homegrown applications.
