NetApp Receives California Waste-Reduction Honors

Sunnyvale, Calif. - December 17, 2007 -- NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced it has been recognized by the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) for its outstanding actions to reduce waste locally and minimize its global impact on the environment. NetApp was one of only five California companies awarded a "WRAP of the Year," which recognizes businesses with the best waste-reduction programs and serves as models of conservation for other corporations.

With the support and effort of its employees, NetApp diverted 1.8 million pounds of material from local landfills in 2006. From the front lawn to the front office, NetApp implemented basic and inventive waste-reduction programs across its Sunnyvale headquarters, decreasing total waste yield by 11% in one year. NetApp is committed to minimizing its environmental impact through the use of its products, activities, and services. Responsible waste-management initiatives included a massive building project that generated 650,000 pounds of recycled construction debris, electric vehicles that shuttle people and goods on campus, reusable ceramic trays and recyclable food containers in campus cafés, flower beds and grass fertilized with recycled wood compost and organic materials, and "e-scrap" recycling events.

"NetApp is a great example of a company acting locally through grass-roots employee efforts and smart policies to reduce waste, recycle, and reuse common materials," said board chair Margo Reid Brown of the California Integrated Waste Management Board. "We all benefit from companies that think like NetApp and look forward to future conservation successes from the company and its technology peers in California."

"We are proud that NetApp received this award and applaud their commitment," said Tim Shea, founder and president of FRG Waste Resources, Inc., Northern California's leading provider of waste management and recycling services. "With the help of our management program that recycled paper, cardboard, wood, foam, cans, bottles, batteries, and light bulbs, NetApp achieved outstanding results in 2006, including saving over $45,000 in landfill fees alone. We also kept NetApp informed on the progress of their efforts by conducting periodic waste audits and worked with their staff to create a new employee orientation presentation that shared the company's sustainability goals and policy."

"NetApp is committed to the conservation of natural resources, the prevention of pollution, and the reduction of waste," said Dan Hoffman, senior director of Facilities, NetApp. "We are honored that we have been recognized for our efforts by WRAP two years in a row and we will continue to build environmentally friendly policies that reduce waste and recycle materials. This award reflects the efforts of our entire employee base, which is dedicated to helping the environment."
