NetApp Delivers Significant Total-Cost Advantages Over EMC Celerra for Windows® File Services Consolidation

Sunnyvale, Calif. - March 6, 2007 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced that the cost of owning NetApp enterprise-class storage solutions for Windows file services environments is lower than that of competing offerings from EMC, according to a total cost comparison (TCC) study conducted by Mercer Management Consulting.

The goal of the study was to identify the total cost of acquiring, deploying, operating, and managing EMC Celerra and NetApp FAS environments, based on typical configurations and storage management policies. This report will help customers who have already decided to perform Windows file services consolidation, choose between NetApp and EMC. The findings included in the study are based exclusively on actual cost data provided by network storage administrators and IT managers from midsized and large enterprises across various industries in Europe and North America.

Key findings in the Mercer study include:

Total Cost of NetApp versus EMC Celerra

  • Based on typical configurations and storage management policies for companies that consolidate only the data center, NetApp has a 30% to 39% cost advantage over EMC Celerra, depending on the type of Celerra deployment.

Product Acquisition and Ongoing Vendor Costs

  • NetApp provides a 30% to 40% cost advantage over EMC Celerra in product acquisition and ongoing vendor costs.

Internal Operational Costs

  • NetApp provides a 23% cost advantage over EMC Celerra in internal operational costs.

Downtime and Recovery Costs

  • NetApp provides a 36% to 55% cost advantage over EMC Celerra solutions in downtime and recovery costs.

"NetApp storage solutions offer customers the best value and ease of use for managing their Windows file storage environments," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at NetApp. "Total cost of ownership is a major consideration for all enterprise businesses, and we're excited to have independent research from Mercer confirm that NetApp solutions significantly reduce overall consolidation and operational costs."
