St. Baldrick’s Foundation Salutes NetApp for Raising $1 Million to Help Conquer Kids’ Cancer
LOS ANGELES (December 6, 2011)
- It takes corporate support to Conquer Kids' Cancer! The
St.
Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to
raising money for childhood cancer research, is excited to
recognize NetApp as the first St. Baldrick's corporate sponsor to
raise $1 million in a single year. This milestone has helped the
Foundation award more than $21 million in new grants to fund
lifesaving childhood cancer research.
2011 marked the second consecutive year that
NetApp
was the top St. Baldrick's corporate fundraising team. In all, the
NetApp effort yielded more than 350 shavees with events held in 19
offices around the world. NetApp's spirit of volunteerism is
evident through efforts to extend its fundraising campaign to
family members and other technology partners and resulted in
helping St. Baldrick's raise more than $27.9 million, host more
than 1,000 events and recruit more than 45,000 shavees in 2011.
NetApp has a vision to build a model company
and deliver the best possible results for the communities it serves
by living a set of core values. NetApp's work with organizations
like St. Baldrick's is an example of these core values and
exemplifies the company's culture of giving and commitment to
philanthropy.
"Many NetApp employees are proud to support
the St. Baldrick's Foundation and be a part of an amazing cause
that raises money for childhood cancer research," said Rob Salmon,
executive vice president of Field Operations for NetApp. "It began
as an event in our New York office, but has spread throughout the
company and is now an annual tradition. NetApp has a truly unique
corporate culture, and the overwhelming support and dedication that
employees around the world devote to this great cause are a perfect
example of that."
NetApp's involvement with St. Baldrick's
started five years ago, when New York employees Bill Hogan,
NetApp's executive sponsor for St. Baldrick's, and Joey Santamorena
were first introduced to the Foundation and organized their first
St. Baldrick's signature head-shaving event, raising nearly
$150,000. Since then, NetApp employees have embraced the grassroots
spirit and continue to build on their fundraising success.
"It is heartwarming to see how the NetApp
family has embraced our mission to Conquer Kids' Cancer by making
it part of their corporate culture," says Kathleen Ruddy, executive
director for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. "We are thrilled by the
amount of compassion and effort that have resulted in this
tremendous milestone on behalf of kids with cancer. With partners
like NetApp, even greater progress will be possible in 2012 and the
years to follow."
From company team challenges to individuals
raising the fundraising bar at the workplace, the Foundation is
proud to have the support of numerous dedicated companies around
the world. Everyone can do their part to support St. Baldrick's! To

About St. Baldrick's
Foundation
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity
committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for
childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The
Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any
organization except the U.S. government. St. Baldrick's funds are
granted to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research
experts in the world and to younger professionals who will be the
experts of tomorrow. Funds awarded also enable hundreds of local
institutions to participate in national pediatric cancer clinical
trials, a child's best hope for a cure. Since the Foundation's
first grants as an independent charity in 2005, St. Baldrick's has
funded more than $77 million in childhood cancer research. For more
