HOUSTON -SEPTEMBER 30, 2010
- Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT), the leader for
geoscientific interpretation software, today announced it has
joined the NetApp Alliance Partner Program as an Advantage Alliance
Partner. This partnership comes at a time when organizations in the
oil & gas industry have increasingly higher demands for
computing performance. The new alliance will focus on helping
customers satisfy their computing needs by harnessing the
advantages of 64-bit processing.
"Both unconventional resource-play
exploitation and deep water exploration require increasing amounts
of data acquisition, storage, and the horsepower to process into
useable information. SMT wants to help customers understand how to
optimize their entire field evaluation workflow to maximize their
performance. We see NetApp as an ideal partner to help us educate
our customers," said Indy Chakrabarti, Chief Marketing Officer,
SMT.
The two organizations have recently
collaborated with a major US independent Exploration and Production
(E&P) operator to develop test cases documenting improvements
that can be seen using SMT KINGDOM with NetApp® storage and
data management in a 64-bit computing environment. These findings
indicate real benefits for geoscientists. For example, execution 3D
time slices on the fly improved by nearly 60%, read/writes to the
Oracle database improved, on average, 25%. Material gains were also
seen in data loading speeds.
"In both emerging areas of future
exploration, unconventional and deep water, reducing risk is a
critical issue. One of the ways to reduce this risk is by providing
the asset team fast and reliable access to the right tools and the
right data, all at the right time. We are proud to partner with
SMT, a leader for geoscientific interpretation software, to help
our customers build the infrastructure they need to make the right
decisions," said Richard Seger, director of Industry Alliances and
Solutions at NetApp.
To better educate customers about best
practices for geoscience computing, the two companies have combined
with E&P operator Pioneer Natural Resources to host a web based
broadcast on October 6th with Hart Energy. To register for the

software, helps organizations find oil and gas faster. The
company's KINGDOM software allows geoscientists to focus on the
analysis, not on managing the tools. SMT software enables intuitive
interpretation, 3D modeling, analysis and data management, in one
integrated executable. Customers can install and interpret data in
the same day. With 2,700 customers in 100 nations, SMT has
demonstrated performance proven to scale. SMT is headquartered in
Houston, Texas with offices in Abu Dhabi, Calgary, Croydon (UK),
