NetApp Showcases Storage Efficiency at SNW Europe 2009

Maximizing the Economics of the Data Center

The Netherlands, October 16, 2009- At Storage Networking World (SNW) Europe 2009, NetApp will showcase the power of storage efficiency. In the spotlight: technologies such as deduplication, storage virtualisation, true unified storage and backup & recovery to maximise data center investments and economics. In tutorials and expert podium discussions, NetApp representatives will be speaking on a variety of hot topics, including Ethernet storage, data protection, Green IT, solid state storage and new protocols sucha s FCoE and pNFS. A quite technical, yet interesting example for NetApp storage in the real world will be presented by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland. They will speak about NetApp NAS storage for their ALICE databases with a stress on performance and system monitoring. This year, NetApp is a Silver sponsor of the conference.

SNW Europe is a major event for NetApp. A variety of activities proves the company's commitment to the conference, including:

NetApp is an active member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) in the US and in Europe. The company is a founding member of SNIA's Cloud Storage Initiative that has been announced at SNW Fall in Phoenix, Arizona. Furthermore, Dave Dale, Director Industry Standards at NetApp and an acknowledged expert in Ethernet storage has been elected SNIA Vice-Chairman.

NetApp's Cesar Orosco is taking part in a panel discussion hosted by APC. The topic "IT and Facility Management working together or apart?" is a perfect match for NetApp's thesis that both units must be in sync to deliver on a holistic approach to Green IT. NetApp has recently been asigned an award for its Green IT Data Center. It has been built according to status quo analyses involving several departments, budgets, strategic und technological options. With a consolidated network solution, energy consumption for operation and cooling was reduced by 80%, the hardware footprint sank by 75%.
