NetApp Teams with Leading Archive Vendors to Provide Customers with Advanced Archive and Compliance Solutions
NetApp Redefines Archive Affordability and Data Protection for Customers Through Integrations with CommVault, Quest, and Mimosa
Sunnyvale
,
Calif. - November 11, 2008 - NetApp
(NASDAQ: NTAP) today furthered its role as an innovator and a
leader in the archive and compliance market by announcing three new
strategic relationships. As a result, CommVault, Quest, and Mimosa,
all leaders in the archive industry, will integrate with NetApp's
industry-leading data protection and storage efficiency solutions,
providing customers with a unified solution for increased
performance and affordability.
Today, archiving important business data is
more than just making sure that the information is retained and
meets strict government compliance regulations. With customers
paying closer attention to their IT bottom lines, it's also
imperative that their archive solutions operate efficiently and
cost-effectively, without sacrificing performance.
"Our research suggests that companies will
archive over 100,000 petabytes of data in the next three years,"
said Brian Babineau, senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group.
"When you combine this capacity with multiyear retention periods,
it drives the need for archive solutions that help organizations
cost-effectively save data for long periods of time. Archive
solutions that leverage the latest in data protection technology,
including those that support the backup and disaster recovery of
critical archive data, can address these significant demands."
By allowing NetApp's data protection and
storage efficiency capabilities to integrate with their respective
archive solutions, CommVault, Quest, and Mimosa are teaming with
NetApp to provide customers with industry-leading archiving
platforms. These archiving platforms leverage NetApp's unified
storage architecture, enabling joint archive customers to support
multiple classes of storage and protocols within a single
architecture, driving lower operating costs, higher performance,
and less physical storage than competing storage solutions offer.
Furthermore, customers can harness components of the NetApp®
Data ONTAP® operating system, including deduplication, thin
provisioning, and FlexVol®, gaining storage-efficiency
solutions that result in lower power, cooling, and space
requirements, creating a more efficient archive environment.
In addition, NetApp delivers cascading
Snapshot™ copies, a data protection approach that provides
end-to-end protection for the archive application stack. To enable
cascading Snapshot copies, NetApp's lineup of data protection
solutions, including Snapshot, SnapVault®, SnapManager®
for SQL™, and SnapMirror®, run in concert to automate
and synchronize backups and replication across the archive
database, index, and content repositories. Synchronization enables
data consistency across the multitiered application that is
critical to quickly and easily recovering the archive environment.
As a result, customers can increase application availability,
dramatically reduce backup downtime, and significantly improve
recovery point objectives and recovery times of the archive
application and content.
The solutions from CommVault, Quest, and
Mimosa all support archiving for major messaging, collaboration,
and unstructured data, including Microsoft® Exchange Server,
Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server, file data, and Lotus
Notes. Each of the vendors also supports NetApp SnapLock® WORM
(write once, read many) storage, allowing customers to lock down
this data to address compliance, information governance, and legal
discovery requirements.
"Data volumes are exploding, particularly as
customers face increased regulatory compliance and disaster
recovery pressures," said Michael Marchi, vice president of Product
and Segment Marketing, CommVault. "As a result of closer joint
development with NetApp, we deliver customers unique data
management solutions built on CommVault Simpana software and NetApp
storage solutions. We jointly offer customers a more efficient,
flexible, and cost-effective way to optimize storage for data
protection and archiving, while significantly improving data access
and availability in any storage environment."
