Telstra Europe Selects NetApp® Storage to Establish Cambridge's First Data Center

Sunnyvale, Calif. - March 21, 2006 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leader in advanced network storage solutions, today announced that Telstra Europe, one of the UK's leading alternative business telephony and internet suppliers, selected NetApp storage to support the opening of Cambridge's first Internet data center, which will provide managed storage, disaster recovery, and business continuity services to British businesses.

Telstra Europe is using a combination of NetApp fabric-attached storage (FAS) systems and NetApp NearStore® systems for data archival, featuring NetApp RAID Double Parity (RAID-DP™) for superior levels of data protection. The solution makes it possible for Telstra Europe to offer scalable and secure managed storage services with high resilience and performance.

The high-tech center is Telstra Europe's fifth purpose built site in the UK and builds on the success of its existing data centers in London Docklands, Birmingham, Manchester and Sunderland. The facilities at St. John's Innovation Park, Cambridge, include a telecommunications room, a test lab, and managed hosting and co-location facilities.

Equipped with high-quality and resilient support systems, Telstra Europe's customers will have uninterrupted voice and data services and experience no business interruption or downtime. The systems will include generator backup to an uninterrupted power supply, ensuring a constant, clean supply of power, temperature control facilities, and fire detection and suppression facilities. The site underwent a 100% successful "black building" test in January 2006, which involved a live simulation of a total power failure event in a controlled environment to test the resiliency of the site's business continuity capabilities.

"With increased regulatory requirements governing data storage, including Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II, and the Data Protection Act amongst others, compliance has been propelled to the top of the board room agenda," said David Thorn, CEO of Telstra Europe. "Having secure off-site data backup, at a safe geographical distance from the original site, has become a priority for customers in the region and highly recommended by regulatory bodies."

Thorn continued, "We selected NetApp over other vendors to provide our storage infrastructure at Cambridge based on its market-leading data storage solutions, which offered us simplicity, ease of use, and a lower total cost of ownership."

"NetApp and Telstra have a long and impressive history. We are thrilled to have been part of Telstra's latest data center project in the UK, where regulations are becoming as prominent as in the United States," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "Our goal is to bring customers the confidence and tools to better control and manage their storage environments. Our latest work with Telstra illustrates the power and simplicity of NetApp disaster recovery and data protection solutions."

Additionally, Telstra was named a 2005 NetApp Innovation Award winner in the Enterprise Category at an awards ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco, California. The NetApp Innovation Awards recognize customers and partners who have implemented NetApp solutions in an innovative way to positively impact their business. The Enterprise category honors organizations that have deployed NetApp solutions for a commercial business that has achieved a positive business impact.
