Oracle Announces Oracle® Enterprise Manager Partner Offering - Enabling Broader Management of Systems and Services in Grid Environments

Redwood Shores, Calif. - October 31, 2005 - Oracle today announced the launch of the Oracle Enterprise Manager Partner offering in response to overwhelming interest by its partner, customer and developer communities to provide broader management of enterprise grid environments. In Release 2, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control (Oracle Grid Control) supports partner Management Plug-Ins, to provide customers with a single, integrated Web-based console to monitor and manage complex IT environments comprised of Oracle and non-Oracle systems.

Available through Oracle PartnerNetwork, participating partners can receive immediate access to a comprehensive range of services designed to help them deliver the best value to joint customers of enterprise grids. Partners are taking advantage of this offering to work closely with Oracle to develop a wide-ranging set of plug-ins and Management Connectors to increase the value of Oracle's management product suite and reduce the cost and complexity of managing enterprise systems. With the plug-ins, system administrators can use Release 2 to monitor the availability, performance and configuration of their hardware, software and applications from a central location. The plug-ins also automatically benefit from Oracle Grid Control's monitoring and management features, including alerts, automatic performance data collection, blackouts and templates to provide end-to-end system-service monitoring and enhance service delivery. The management connectors enable the bi-directional exchange of information between Oracle Enterprise Manager and other management solutions that customers may have in their environments.

Through this effort, partners are able to decrease costs associated with development efforts and reduce time-to-market for plug-ins and products built around Oracle Grid Control. Benefits also include tighter integration between partner products and Oracle Grid Control, and the ability to offer joint customers a robust management tool to use as their monitoring and management framework. Oracle also offers educational, technical, marketing and sales support to participating partners.

"Organizations are moving to grid computing environments because of the flexibility, improved automation, increased IT utilization, and lower cost of labor," said Jay Rossiter, vice president of System Management Products, Oracle. "Oracle recognizes the value of partnership in delivering such a solution and we are committed to working with partners to provide customers with the most comprehensive framework to help better monitor their computing environments, drive down management costs, and increase overall service levels."

"By providing direct access for partners to our development teams and resources at Oracle, we are able to facilitate closer relationships that lead to greater opportunities for our partners," said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Worldwide Alliances and Channels at Oracle. "Through our new Product Focus Areas on OPN, partners can evaluate the requirements and benefits of the offering and sign up on line."

Support for Leading IT Infrastructure Products
In Release 2, Oracle Grid Control boasts strong support for products from a number of leading technology vendors. With improved insight into the performance of partner products, Oracle Grid Control allows administrators to more effectively detect and resolve issues in a grid computing environment. Available today are new plug-ins that enable Oracle Grid Control to deliver diagnostic and management capabilities for:

  • BEA Systems WebLogic (version 7.0 and above);
  • F5 Networks BIG-IP Server Load Balancer (version 9.0 and above);
  • IBM WebSphere (version 5.0 and above); and,
  • NetApp® fabric-attached storage systems.

Plug-ins for Check Point Software's VPN-1® Pro with integrated firewall functionality and Juniper Networks Firewalls, among others, are planned.

"As organizations continue to move toward enterprise grids, a centralized management system becomes even more critical," said Paul Weinstein, vice president of business development for Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP). "Our integrated firewall and Virtual Private Network gateways coupled with Oracle Grid Control will enable us to offer our joint customers a secure, easily managed grid environment."

"Through this partner offering and the release of the BIG-IP Plug-in for Grid Control utilizing our iControl API, we are able to address customer demand for an integrated tool that monitors and configures the complete application and network infrastructure from one central location," said Jim Ritchings, vice president of Business Development at F5 Networks. "With Oracle Grid Control and F5's BIG-IP system customers now have access to highly available end-to-end application delivery networking, substantially lowering TCO."

"Enterprises are asking for our help in making systems manageability easier and less expensive," said Tony Scarfo, vice president of Global Alliances at Juniper Networks. "The Oracle Grid Control management plug-in for Juniper's Firewalls will provide our customers with a comprehensive tool for monitoring their entire IT environment."

"The combination of Oracle Grid Control and NetApp® storage systems provides our customers with a unique and systematic way to monitor their entire grid environment," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "We are delighted to be the first enterprise storage platform to be managed and monitored directly from Oracle Grid Control. Now customers can monitor the performance of their storage processor utilization and disk I/O and review and adjust NetApp storage system utilization. This is another great example of how NetApp and Oracle are working together to make enterprise grids simple to manage and cost effective."
