Network Appliance and Documentum Extend Partnership

Sunnyvale, Calif. - December 15, 2003 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, and Documentum (NASDAQ: DCTM), a leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM), today announced that they are extending their existing partnership. Specifically, the two companies will perform joint lab testing at Documentum to certify and support the Documentum ECM platform on NetApp® platforms, and Documentum will join the NetApp Developer's Program. The companies will also develop expanded go-to-market strategies, including collaborating to deliver total solutions to mutual customers.

"Network Appliance and Documentum are both focused on helping today's content-driven enterprises make the most of their storage and ECM investments with innovative, simple-to-use solutions," said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. "Through our enhanced partnership, we will work even more closely to engage and support customers, educate the market, and certify and enhance our interoperability and performance."

"Documentum and Network Appliance are extending their partnership to make it easy for our customers to deploy and manage powerful ECM solutions," said David Milam, Chief Marketing Officer at Documentum. "The need for more efficient business processes and new legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and SEC 17a-4 make it imperative that companies have scalable, intelligent, multiplatform storage and retrieval technologies. NetApp and Documentum are delivering solutions that help customers incorporate and deploy those technologies with high levels of speed and flexibility."

In related news, Network Appliance and Documentum announced results of joint testing that demonstrated that Documentum and NetApp easily handle over a billion content objects with excellent performance results. Documentum conducted the test using Documentum ECM platform with both NetApp high-performance and near-line storage platforms in both NAS and iSCSI SAN configurations, to illustrate the scalability and performance benefits of deploying the Documentum platform on NetApp storage. The combined solution provides fast access to both current and archived content, simplifies infrastructure management, and easily scales to a billion data objects while still supporting thousands of concurrent users.

Many organizations generate millions of content objects such as emails, documents, and paper and electronic forms on a regular basis. Large organizations in regulated industries such as financial services exchange two million or more messages per day. With NetApp and Documentum, companies can take advantage of cost-effective and reliable content management solutions that scale to ensure timely access to their business-critical information-all at a low total cost of ownership (TCO).

"Network Appliance provides a flexible and cost-effective storage infrastructure for Documentum," says Peter Gerr, analyst at Enterprise Storage Group. "By leveraging the NetApp SnapLock™ solution, NetApp and Documentum help IT and business professionals build and quickly implement an integrated storage and content management solution suitable for addressing compliance with a variety of legislation, including 21CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act."

"Network Appliance is committed to delivering simplified storage infrastructure for content-intensive enterprise applications such as content management and e-mail archival, while meeting performance and availability requirements," elaborated Santora. "NetApp solutions provide Documentum customers with high-performance enterprise storage that offers unified NAS and SAN capabilities, high content availability, and the ability to grow storage online with excellent performance. This latest test proves the joint solution can easily grow to handle a billion objects or more."
