Finisar and Network Appliance Collaborate to Accelerate the Deployment of IP-Based SANs

Austin, Texas - August 11, 2003 -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR), a technology leader in gigabit fiber optic solutions for high-speed data networks, today announced that Medusa Labs, an independent group of Finisar, was expanding its Pre-Qualification Testing Program to support multi-vendor iSCSI solutions. The iSCSI qualification tests were developed in close cooperation with Network Appliance, Inc.,, a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions.

The testing program is designed to verify proper functionality and operation between iSCSI initiator and iSCSI target hardware. These unbiased and independently designed test suites monitor product functionality, stability, data integrity, and performance while being performed in optimal and error-induced states. Error injection and recovery verify that the products are up to the most stringent data-center requirements. Medusa can also perform an audit of software for an assessment of user-related issues.

"This program was created to verify that vendors are able to deliver high-quality and reliable iSCSI products that integrate effortlessly to meet the storage needs of enterprises today and tomorrow," said Mark Lanteigne, Manager, Compliance Lab and co-founder of Medusa Labs. "We are honored to collaborate with storage industry leader Network Appliance to create this program."

Testing will be carried out at Finisar's Medusa Labs facility in Austin, Texas. All tests use Finisar's industry-leading SAN protocol analysis and test equipment, including error injectors, bit error rate testers and data generators. Finisar's protocol analysis tools allow for extremely accurate and detailed analysis of iSCSI and Fibre Channel traffic. These tools utilize Finisar's SANMetrics "expert" software, which sifts through vast amounts of collected data and automatically analyzes traces for errant behaviors. Finisar's test tools have the ability to stress specific and unique areas of enterprise systems, including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, PCI, memory subsystems and processors.

"We believe that iSCSI adapters will plug and play just like any other Ethernet components as a result of carefully written specifications, a well-understood layered software model and regular plugfests," said Mark Santora, Senior Vice President of marketing at Network Appliance. "This program from an industry leader in independent third-party testing enables iSCSI adapter and iSCSI storage vendors to self-qualify onto each other's support matrix. We believe this will accelerate the deployment of multivendor iSCSI solutions in production environments."
