Network Appliance Achieves Network-Attached Storage Market Leadership
Sunnyvale, Calif. - June 6, 2003 --
According to IDC's Worldwide Disk Storage Systems Quarterly report,
Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), remains the worldwide
leader in network-attached storage (NAS) with 37.3% market share in
factory revenue in Q1 2003, up 4.5 points from Q1 2002. Network
Appliance also maintained its leadership position with 41% of the
NAS terabytes shipped. The results validate that Network Appliance
continues to enhance its storage strategy with solutions that bring
powerful functionality and scalability to customers and broaden the
company's overall market reach.
Based on the report's findings, IDC attributes the momentum in disk
storage systems growth to customers' adoption of network storage
(NAS and Open SAN). The analyst firm confirms that in Q1 2003
network storage represents over 50% of the total external disk
storage systems market, while traditional direct-attached storage
represents 42% of the market, down from 46% a year ago.
"The IDC market share report reaffirms our commitment to deliver
the highest- performing, most cost-effective solutions in the NAS
and worldwide disk storage systems market spaces," said Mark
Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance.
"Our vision continues to be based on delivering solutions that meet
current and future customer needs in the enterprise storage space."
