RLX Technologies First to Integrate ServerBlade and Storage Management Tools Through Its Relationship with Network Appliance

Houston, TX - February 17, 2003 -- RLX Technologies™, Inc., the leader in no compromise IT, scale-out cluster servers, and management solutions today announced integration of its Control Tower™ management tool with FilerView® from Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP). This announcement marks a technology relationship between RLX and Network Appliance, a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions.

The new integration tool makes it easier for a customer to realize the synergies between blade technology and storage over IP by reducing the time, expertise, and cost associated with deploying large scale, data intensive server farms. With the click of a button Control Tower enables storage volumes to be associated with portions of individual ServerBlades, the entire ServerBlade, or a group of RLX ServerBlades. This high level of interoperability and overall approach to management is unique in the industry. It offers the flexibility of mapping and managing storage volumes from the perspective of either the ServerBlade or the NetApp storage device.

"With RLX and Network Appliance, I receive a complete solution that combines highly efficient Network Appliance NAS storage and RLX ServerBlades," said Dr. Bill Kimmerly, director of Genomic and Information Resources at Ceres, Inc. "The combination of powerful RLX ServerBlades and flexible Network Appliance NAS storage provides Ceres with a superior solution for distributed bioinformatic applications that reduces IT costs and simplifies server-to-storage management."

The RLX/NetApp NAS Plugin solution is not only more efficient, but it also offers customers more flexibility. RLX Control Tower will support ServerBlade management with NetApp NAS storage devices across all RLX ServerBlades (from the new dual processor high performance RLX ServerBlade 2800i and 3000i to the single processor offerings), as well as across a wide range of platforms including Windows® 2000 and Linux®.

"Using the combined RLX/NetApp solution, our customers see a time savings of 50% when they perform server mapping of storage, especially in large server installations," said Scott Farrand, vice president of systems engineering at RLX. "We are committed to bringing these kinds of practical solutions to market, which will enable our customers to better utilize the power and flexibility of their blade environment."

"The RLX/NetApp NAS solution takes storage/blade interoperability to a new level," said Rich Clifton, vice president of the SAN/iSAN Business Unit at Network Appliance. "The solution allows customers to easily and quickly identify dependencies between their storage and blade servers, allowing both to be more efficiently used."
