Sybase Supports Network Appliance's Move into the SAN Arena

Dublin and Sunnyvale, CA - October 9, 2002 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise storage solutions, and Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise infrastructure and integration company, today announced their collaboration on a variety of new storage endeavors, including Sybase's support of Network Appliance's entrance into the SAN and unified storage arenas. Sybase's support for new NetApp® systems augments the longstanding relationship with Network Appliance.

On October 1, Network Appliance launched its FAS900 series, Network Appliance's new flagship enterprise storage platform, as well as new partnerships, management solutions, and other hardware and software products that establish Network Appliance as a leading full-line enterprise storage provider.

The NetApp® FAS960, FAS940, F880 and F825 are the first unified storage solutions capable of handling storage in native SAN and/or NAS mode, allowing enterprises to access and share data as they choose in a flexible, manageable, scalable, high-performance environment.

The new NetApp unified storage solution helps Sybase® Adaptive Server® Enterprise, Sybase's enterprise-class relational database management system, meet the demanding requirements of mission-critical OLTP, DSS, and Internet applications by leveraging NetApp value-add solutions, including Snapshot™, SnapRestore®, and SnapMirror® software, which provide rapid recovery for mission-critical data.

Collaboration between the two companies remains focused on delivering best-in-class technology solutions for customers in the areas of storage consolidation, data center operations, business continuance, and distributed enterprise.

"We are pleased to support Network Appliance's move into the SAN space. Network Appliance has firmly established itself as a storage leader offering the broadest portfolio of full-line enterprise storage solutions," said Sumit Kundu, senior manager of Product Management, Enterprise Solutions Division, at Sybase, Inc. "In today's data-intensive enterprise, the NetApp unified storage approach is key to safeguarding mission-critical data."
