Network Appliance Teams with EDS PLM Solutions to Enhance Product Lifecycle Management

Sunnyvale, CA - March 11, 2002 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of network storage solutions, today announced that it has teamed with EDS PLM Solutions, a leading software solution provider for product lifecycle management (PLM) in the design and manufacturing industry.

Network Appliance and EDS PLM Solutions have agreed to jointly develop a broad range of technical and marketing initiatives to integrate and optimize NetApp enterprise storage solutions with PLM solutions from EDS. NetApp's industry leading data management solutions for both centralized and distributed engineering and manufacturing environments enhance EDS PLM Solution's collaborative applications.

The first step in a series of joint activities between the companies is certification of I-deas 9 and Unigraphics® design applications integrated with NetApp storage solutions. Customers using the CAD/CAM/CAE design products from EDS benefit from Network Appliance's simple appliance model, which leverages existing network investments to deliver lower total cost of ownership. NetApp storage solutions provide the highest levels of data availability, enabling enterprises to increase engineering and manufacturing productivity by reducing system downtime and lessening the time it takes to access both local and geographically remote data. In conjunction with backup and recovery software solutions that simplify the data management process, Network Appliance™ scalable solutions provide a building block approach that gives design and manufacturing departments the flexibility to grow their storage pools on demand, quickly, and easily.

"Global manufacturing enterprises are relentlessly focused on increasing productivity to speed time to market and reduce design and manufacturing costs," said Ray Villeneuve, vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. "Teaming with EDS PLM Solutions demonstrates Network Appliance's continued commitment to delivering advanced storage solutions that speed data access and improve enterprise application performance. Enabling people and systems to access information faster and more reliably means a more efficient design and manufacturing process and translates to a major competitive edge."

"EDS PLM Solutions delivers products that enable companies to leverage the knowledge and experience of their entire extended enterprise. This improves every major stage of the product lifecycle, creating outstanding products and improving time to market. Together with Network Appliance, we simplify the overall design and manufacturing process by ensuring fully interoperable/integrated technology and proven compatibility," said Chuck Grindstaff, president PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. "This is a winning combination for large-scale design and development and sets the stage for future joint activities."
