Home Improvement Power Tool Company Builds ‘Drill-Proof’ Protection for Mission-Critical SAP® Solutions Environment with Network Appliance
Sunnyvale, Calif. - October 6, 2004
-- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced that
TTI-North America's Hardware Group, a leading manufacturer of power
tools and outdoor products, selected NetApp enterprise storage to
manage and protect application data for its busy SAP®
solutions environment. TTI-North American global brand portfolio
includes Ryobi® power tools, Homelite® and Ryobi®
outdoor power equipment. NetApp is helping TTI-North America make
sure that when it receives client orders for power tools or outdoor
products, that the orders are processed efficiently, are readily
available for reviewing and sharing, and the data is protected from
loss and corruption.
TTI-North America required a flexible
consolidated storage environment that reduced complexity, was easy
to manage, and helped them to rapidly address new and evolving
business requirements. TTI-North America also wanted to update its
backup and recovery strategy to a disk-based backup solution.
TTI-North America selected NetApp to replace its existing storage
infrastructure for heightened customer satisfaction and increased
performance transactions in SAP solutions. NetApp now protects
TTI-North America's SAP solutions environment seamlessly at every
level, with 11TB of NetApp unified storage deployed to provide high
availability storage for SAP solutions, its underlying Oracle®
Databases, and other applications.
"The reliability of NetApp storage helps
ensure that our data is immune to hardware failure," said David
Burlingame, ERP Systems Manager for TTI-North America. "Regular
Snapshot™ copies take only 30-seconds to create, protecting
us from application and user errors. Additionally, SnapVault™
provides high-speed, disk-based backups to protect against any
unplanned events that threaten taking down our system, while
SnapMirror® protects us against a site-wide disaster. All this
happens automatically, reducing our administrative burden while
eliminating the potential for degraded performance during backup.
Backups now take only 30 seconds. The NetApp solution is so easy to manage that
although our storage has tripled, we have not had to add any
additional staff to manage our storage infrastructure. The fact
that we get all this from a single vendor is impressive."
The integrated NetApp Snapshot feature
provides consistent, point-in-time copies of data every two hours,
with NetApp SnapRestore® for immediate recovery.
High-performance, disk-based backups are performed nightly to a
NetApp NearStore® system with NetApp SnapVault software. For
disaster recovery, TTI-North America added a second NearStore
system at its disaster recovery facility, located 35 miles from its
primary data center. NetApp SnapMirror software asynchronously
copies critical data between locations to protect against site-wide
disasters.
"NetApp offers a unique value proposition for
SAP and Oracle users such as TTI-North America's Hardware Group,"
said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Marketing at Network
Appliance. "We remain committed to delivering the utmost data
availability at the lowest total cost of ownership in
mission-critical ERP environments by eliminating both planned and
unplanned downtime. NetApp partners closely with Oracle, SAP, and
other database and application players to ensure that our products,
support, and services work seamlessly to exceed the expectations of
our customers."
