FileNet Teams with Network Appliance to Offer Integrated Enterprise Content Management Solutions
Sunnyvale and Costa Mesa, Calif. - December 2, 2003 --
FileNet Corporation (Nasdaq: FILE), the leading provider of
Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, today announced a
global strategic alliance agreement with Network Appliance, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage
solutions. Under the agreement, FileNet and NetApp will coordinate
marketing and development activities to integrate and optimize
FileNet ECM solutions with NetApp® unified storage and
information lifecycle management (ILM) solutions.
The alliance demonstrates FileNet's view of protected storage
technologies as a critical and growing component necessary to meet
today's increasing content management requirements. The alliance
pairs FileNet's ECM software, which leverages highly evolved
content, process and connectivity capabilities to allow users to
achieve better, faster decision making, with Network
Appliance™ unified network attached storage (NAS) and storage
area network (SAN) disk subsystems and software solutions.
The partnership addresses customer needs for reduced complexity in
deploying and managing integrated enterprise content management
solutions with an optimized ILM infrastructure. This can ensure
that content is stored and retrieved from the right class of
storage as required, depending on its value and the associated
business processes. Properly implemented, the result can be more
timely access to information with lower total cost of
ownership.
Both companies are working to ensure tight product integration,
validation, and support for NetApp fabric-attached storage (FAS)
systems, NearStore™ storage systems, and SnapLock™ data
permanence storage solution within the FileNet P8 product line,
including FileNet Image Manager, FileNet Content Manager, and
FileNet Records Manager suites. This will enable companies and
government organizations worldwide to better leverage and control
their critical business content and related business processes,
using the capabilities of FileNet P8 to manage information of all
types through the complex business lifecycle of creation, secure
access, revision, retention, re-use, web publishing and if
necessary, destruction.
Customers can add the SnapLock functionality to existing NetApp
NearStore and FAS systems and deploy it with FileNet's Image
Services Connector for SnapLock (ISCS) available in late December
2003, giving existing FileNet Image Services customers the option
to replace existing optical storage with faster, more reliable
magnetic disk-based write-once, read-many (WORM) storage. SnapLock
allows users to set records retention periods and prevent premature
deletion of content at the storage level, which can help companies
fulfill regulatory requirements mandated by legislation such as the
Sarbanes-Oxley Bill of 2002 and SEC Rule 17a-4.
"Organizations using ECM to help manage the content and processes
that drive their businesses need a secure means to store and
preserve these critical assets that is low cost and based on
industry standards," said Ken Fitzpatrick, chief marketing officer,
FileNet. "With the corporate and regulatory compliance mandates we
see driving business today, it's important for our ECM customers to
have support for secure protected storage technologies like the
NetApp SnapLock software. These technologies can both lower the
cost of ownership for customers' ECM and ILM implementations and
provide greater support for compliance-mandated capabilities such
as flexible retention periods and deletion prevention."
"Our expanded partnership with FileNet enables our enterprise
customers to experience the two best-in-class solutions, and gives
them the peace of mind that comes with a highly-available,
reliable, and secure data management solution," said Mark Santora,
senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. "With
Network Appliance disaster recovery and regulatory compliance
storage solutions FileNet customers can maximize the creation,
publication, and sharing of information through both its storage
and business lifecycle-securely and reliably."
FileNet and NetApp also will develop a plan to test NetApp
SnapMirror® disaster recovery and high availability software
for FileNet P8. SnapMirror replicates changed blocks of data to one
of many NetApp appliances over local or wide area networks,
allowing both content and metadata to be mirrored to a remote
location quickly and efficiently. This allows for both a much
faster recovery and much lower level of potential data loss in case
of a data center outage.
NetApp also will determine optimized methods for the use of FileNet
business process management functionality as the foundation for
automated business actions to perform compliance-oriented tasks
such as file deletion or data scrubbing, migration and backup of
data, and reallocation of storage space, while expediting access to
priority compliance data.
Additionally, FileNet will participate in the NetApp Manage ONTAP
partner program, enabling FileNet to more closely monitor and
manage storage, and to integrate more tightly with NetApp backup,
recovery, replication, and data migration features in the future.
