Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) Labs Report Validates NetApp® Data ONTAP™ and V-Series Capabilities
Sunnyvale, Calif. - October 26, 2005 -
Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of
enterprise network storage solutions, today announced that ESG Labs
has released a validation report on NetApp Data ONTAP 7G and
V-Series systems. ESG Labs' hands-on testing demonstrated improved
manageability, performance, and capacity utilization of NetApp
FlexVol™ and FlexClone™ software features. ESG Labs
also tested the storage virtualization capabilities of the NetApp
V-Series with third-party storage systems from IBM and HDS.
Key findings included in the ESG Lab
report:
- NetApp FlexVol thin provisioning enables
customers to get much greater capacity utilization and
significantly simplifies storage provisioning. ESG believes that
thin provisioning is one of the most useful capabilities provided
by a storage system from which most, if not all, customers can
benefit.
- ESG Lab testing showed a 44% improvement in
performance using FlexVol versus traditional volume
performance.
- NetApp provides an excellent midrange
SAN-based storage system that can compete with any of the leading
midrange solutions currently available.
- The NetApp unified approach simplifies
management and reduces costs by providing one system versus two,
with all of the associated software licenses and maintenance
fees.
