Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S): NetApp SMI-S Provider

The NetApp® Data ONTAP® operating system supports the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S).

The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is responsible for developing and maintaining the Storage Management Initiative (SMI) and its Specification (SMI-S), designed to enable the interoperable management of heterogeneous storage systems.

NetApp Participation in SMI

NetApp has been an active member of SNIA since 1988, and on the board of directors of SNIA’s Storage Management Initiative since its inception. NetApp participates in a broad range of SNIA’s SMI-S activities, including active membership in various SMI-related technical working groups and SMI-Lab plugfests.

The NetApp Data ONTAP SMI-S Agent has been certified by for compliance with SNIA’s SMI-S specification. Our SMI-S Provider simplifies storage management for Windows Server®, Hyper-V, and Linux administrators. It also provides management integration for NetApp storage, allows for Microsoft® Azure Site Recovery SAN Replication with SnapMirror® to private clouds or to Azure, and enables many other storage management capabilities.
