Smart IT Decisions Aid People in Need
For workers with disabilities or disadvantages, or people displaced from their job, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. (Goodwill SEW), extends a helping hand to a more fulfilling life. To help more people in more areas, Goodwill SEW continually expands. It opens new stores every year to bring in more revenue, which in turn supports more job centers and training facilities.
As the organization grew, the ability to support uninterrupted operations became increasingly difficult, especially during heavy business periods. The IT team wanted to avoid potential bottlenecks in their aging IT infrastructure, which could slow retail transactions to a crawl and result in lost earnings. As a nonprofit with a tight IT budget, Goodwill SEW also needed an efficient infrastructure easy enough for one person to manage yet powerful enough to handle diverse and heavy workloads.
IT decision makers turned to NetApp partner and value-added reseller CDW for guidance. CDW proposed a converged, FlexPod Datacenter infrastructure built with best-in-class Cisco, NetApp, and VMware solutions. The FlexPod environment delivers the performance, reliability, and scalability to address growing IT demands, while keeping retail systems fast and available to drive new revenue for Goodwill’s diverse charitable operations. Management simplicity is facilitated with single-pane visibility and tightly integrated tools. Storage efficiency features such as deduplication have helped reclaim 33% of storage space, freeing up more funds for programs and services.
Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. operates from nearly100 locations, including 62 retail stores and donation centers. It also runs three manufacturing sites supported by Goodwill-trained workers who, for example, assemble small engine maintenance kits for one of the world’s largest manufacturers of air-cooled gasoline engines.
CDW is a leading provider of integrated information technology solutions.
